Finally an event, but its not what Sex in the City promised!

Most of us when we decided to major in Public Relations had the image of Samantha from Sex in the City in the back of our minds, well its safe to say that a very high percentage of us are not going to end up living the life of Samantha. But hey it’s not all bad! This is what I found out during my time at Magnetize, events are still extremely enjoyable without the glamorous people and delicious looking cocktails. Unfortunately I was only able to participate in one event whilst undergoing my placement; however events are usually commonplace within Magnetize operations. Magnetize believe a well-executed event can do much more than entertain; an event can instill an emotion, reaction or value within a audience which remains with them forever and allows much more communication about a brand than an advertisement ever could.

Recently I attended an event organised by the Planning Institute of Australia, which was held at the Crown in Perth, this event saw many of the countries most influential forward thinkers gathering together to discuss the future for our city and where it will be without extensive planning. There was a sizeable amount of lead up media to do before the event, it was crucial to create and send out media releases about the event and particularly the key guest speakers that would be attending. Our job was to make sure the event ran smoothly and that it was comprehensively broadcasted on social media. My key responsibilities at the conference were to relentlessly take down notes to ensure we had enough content for the post event media, and to update and maintain the live twitter feed, which was surprisingly not as easy as I thought. Trying to take down notes and update the twitter was a test on my ability to multitask and was a fantastic way for me to learn under pressure, which is in my opinion, is the best way to learn.
The Q&A part of the PIA conference.
Thats all for now,
Esther.
