Finally! The main event that our team has been working towards for two months has finally happened! The iiNet Black Diamond Bal was held on July 16 at the Perth Convention Centre and it turned out to be a spectacular success!
A quick run down on Lifeline WA's main annual event is probably necessary:
The theme was Nectar of the Gods and this was shown by a gold and a luxurious 'oasis' feel. Jane from Queen of Theme created a 'chill out area' in the centre of the room which was prvovincial French theming with a leafy garden oasis feel that telephone councellors were available to talk to guests about their job. She also created a 'tree' as a centre piece of each table. This piece of the theming caused a bit of contention as some of the committee members weren't very happy with their look. Personally I thought that these comments did not achieve very much as there was little no nothing she could do at this stage and all it did was upset her and made her dissatisfied and unsure of her efforts. However it is true that everyone has different ideas of how something will turn out and obviously their mental images did not coalesce.
An aerialist performed on silks througout the night, pouring glasses of Moet for guests in the Nectar of the Gods Bar. Jade Macrae and Stratosfunk performed on the night keeping the 500 strong crowd dancing and upbeat. A live auction, raffle and silent auction were held during the night to keep guests entertained.
Overall I was more than happy with how the event looked, proceeded and was run. A slight mishap with the raffle was the only disturbance that happened during the night- no major disasters luckily! After all the work our team had put towards this event is was very satisfying seeing my work on display and hearing people comment positively on it.
This event was instrumental in helping me get a close view into how events work run, understand the work in finding and organising volunteers and the satisfaction in seeing your team's hard work displayed to a large crowd.
I imagine the last few days of my placement will be dedicated to evaluation and a return to regular PR duties that are part of the Fundraising department of Lifeline WA.
