Placement begins...

PR Professional Practice - Amy Brett

I am doing my placement with Linc Integrated. The Managing Director of Linc, JOhn Carlson attended a PR Consultancy Seminar last semster as a guest speaker & his presentation and descrition of his company really appealed to me. I immediately went about arranging to do my placement with Linc.

About Linc Integrated
Linc Integrated Maketing & Communications specialise in Design, Advertising, Strategy, Branding, PR, Web Development & more. Linc's office is in West Perth, and there is also an office in Melbourne. I am working within the PR team which is made up of three consultants (one part time) and a PR manager. According to Linc's website: www.lincintegrated.com

"PR is arguably the most cost-effective means of brand building and communication. It's possibly the most effective means of enhancing your standing and dialogue with almost any audience. Thats why carefully researched and developed PR strategies are a key part of what we do at Linc, from media monitoring and relations, to event organsiation and management, to internal, community, investor and government relations."

The company prides itself on innovation, creativity and forward thinking. I lok forward to completing my placement there.

An insight into my first day...
On my first day at Linc I met Rebecca, the senior PR consultant and my supervisor, and her collegue Shayana, with whom I will be working throughout my placement. I was shown around the office and introduced to the the other team members in other departments. The office itself is large and dominated by modern decor. The company's mantra, 'F*#K THE RULES' is featured in the reception area and further into the office such slogans as 'idea's ROCK' and "Safe is boring, Safe goes unnoticed' are printed in large writing on walls and glass partitions. These such slogan's depict the company's attitude towards modern communications techniques and the value of innovation and bold work.

My first task was media monitoring. This meand going through the daily newspapers, in this case, The West, Tha Australian, The Financial Review and relevant community papers and looking for coverage about Linc's clients generated by Linc, or otherwise relevant stories to Linc's clients. This is done on a daily basis.

Later that day I went to meet Videographer Duane at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre. My task was to interview 10 - 15 people with a set of seven questions while Duane captured the interviews. It was a challenging task, however, it went reasonably smoothly and I was able to get all 15 interviews in approximately 1.5 hours.

To date...
Since my first day I have now spent 6.5 more at Linc and am enjoying the experience. I have averaged 2 days per week with them and have been involved as tasks such as event co-ordination, research and database compilation. I have come to learn that Linc has some low-profile clients and high-profile clients and is ever expanding and striving forward for new clients, and moreinnovative ideas. Much of what is discussed within the office is confidential and can not be discussed outside of the office. I am finding the work and the experience interesting and stimulating and I look forward to the rest of the year.
