An event in action

Hi all,

So this is a bit late, but better late than never. A couple of weeks ago, there was a combined leaders luncheon held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle. This event was the result of combined efforts of the Fremantle Chamber and City of Fremantle. 180 business leaders of the Fremantle business community were present from a wide variety of industries and organisations.

The purpose of this luncheon was to unveil the City's plans for the redevelopment of Fremantle, in particular four key areas that they are concentrating on. The Mayor of Fremantle, Dr Brad Pettitt was present to unveil these plans and was able to answer any questions any guests had.

This event was a great opportunity for business leaders to network between themselves and voice any concerns they may have about Fremantle and/or the redevelopments which will be taking place in the next 5 years.

My role in this event was to organise and maintain the RSVP list for the event. Included in this responsibility was the liaising with the City of Fremantle to ensure details of the event were correct, chasing up organisations who hadn't paid their invoices, making name tags, ensuring the event ran smoothly and promoting the upcoming Chamber event, 'State of the State' Corporate Breakfast.

It was a great function, with some great influential leaders who presented some excellent ideas for the Fremantle business community. Overall, the luncheon ran very smoothly and it was great to see how all the little jobs that are performed in the lead up to the event can contribute to the execution of the event.

Bye for now!
Victoria

I know exactly what you mean about all the "little" jobs that are involved in organising an event. My primary role during my internship was to organise an annual awards night, and I too didn't realise how busy the days would be leading up to it, doing all of these "little" jobs. I emphasis the word "little" as I am sure you would agree, the combination of all of these minor tasks to create a lot of work at the end of the day. Who would have thought making labels and name tags could be so time consuming?
Congratulations on the success of your event. I bet you were stressing out, just as much as I was, as we are always told "whatever could go wrong, will go wrong", when learning about event management. Luckily for both you and me, we didn't have to face such crisis.
