Hello fellow bloggers!
What an experience! I did my internship in Botswana at the Ministry of Health. Looking for this internship was not an easy task because I had initially started looking for it in Malaysia (where i'm currently studying), but could not find it so I decided to book a flight ticket and go back home. I had a few organisations in mind that I was targeting and I went to each one of them to drop my applications. They all rejected my applications. I was on the edge of losing hope when I passed by the Ministry of Health. I decided to go in and 'try my luck' and a miracle happened!
Apparently, they had been looking for interns and that is why they accepted my application right there! They even conducted the interview right there and asked me to wait for their call. I received their call later that evening and I was asked to come to work the following day. I started on the 6th of January 2012 and left on the 24th of February 2012. I must admit, I was scared at first, scared that they may end up not being satisfied with me, that I may not be able to do my tasks satisfactorily.
I came to work very early that morning. You know what they say about first impressions! I was introduced to other PR Officers and other members of the Corporate Services Department. The environment was so professional. They all made me feel welcome and promised me that I was going to love working there (which ended up being true by the way). My supervisor gave me a brief summary of how the ministry works and which tasks I would be expected to do as a PR Officer.
My tasks included media monitoring, event planning, writing articles for the ministry's internal publication called 'The Internal', answering the toll free and helping complainants with whatever complaints they had, writing reports for all complaints, conducting surveys, attending workshops, attending community service days, updating the ministry's internal directory, producing a Community Service Days Plan for the ministry and anything that my supervisor asked me to do.
Until next time...
Nonofo.
