My half way mark at internship at the City of Stirling PR communications department is fast approaching. In a way, i am grateful that there are one or two weeks when i am not required to "come in for work" because the person who manages me will not be in (i will have time then to tackle my hectic uni work) but then again sometimes i worry if i can't meet my twenty days requirement. But you know what, today as i am sitting at my desk yes i am at work now (lunchtime break and im eating at my desk) i can't help but be grateful each time i get called in. The workload is heavy yes, like today for example, i am currently writing up a speech for the Stirling Councillor David Boothman for the Stirling Stars Awards and its funny how i feel SO EXCITED when i took a look at the guestlist and realised i am writing to acknowledge so many important people some of whom include the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Racing and Gaming, Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation, Honourable dr Elizabeth Constable and the list goes on. To know that i took a little part in this event and have my work read out for this makes me secretly sheepishly happy. haha.
Also, i realised working here keeps me in touch with the happenings not just around Stirling but Perth-wide. My manager encourages me to read all these papers. We get free papers delivered to our tables for us and all 4 community newspapers under Stirling, newsletters, event notifications etc. Like today, I just found out about a blood donation drive, something i've wanted to do for a really long time because hahahaha, i have what i like to call selfish blood, ab+ i can only receive blood from people who share the same blood type as me. Also, as a journalism student, i get at times, primary sources from my manager who shares news with me and tell me when this and that are going to happen. When i read other people's blogs and see them getting involved in events and attending them, i feel their happiness because i get to do all of those plus more! Whoever said PR internship is going to be easy is really sprouting nonsense, i thought i knew alot, but hey, i am a student all over again when i start my intern and a very happy, blessed and greateful one at that.
I am looking at all these HUGE posters in the office i know will soon be distributed to many different areas, they're all laid down and sealed up in boxes (lady managing them sealing them up) but i promise i will take pictures of them soon! hey, free publicity right!
