I have been lucky enough to attain an
internship position at Magenta, a boutique creative agency with an amazing
office space, located in Northbridge. Magenta work mainly with luxury fashion
and lifestyle brands, and they are one of the only PR agencies in Perth to do
so. Having been obsessed with fashion from a young age, upon discovering
Magenta I quickly decided that it was exactly where I wanted to complete my
work placement.
My first day at Magenta was both exciting
and nerve-racking. Upon arriving at the company’s temporary office location in
West Perth, I was warmly greeted by the team and quickly assigned to my first
task. One of the PR team members, Ivona, informed me that I would be working on
putting together an event database for a client and that this would involve
making outbound phone calls to managers of various events.
Making my first phone call was scary. I had
to try and “sell” the client’s product, so that the event manager would want
them to be featured at their expo. I was determined not to mess up what I
wanted to say so much, that I actually wrote down bullet points as if I was
about to give a speech. After the first few calls I managed to gain confidence
and towards the end I felt much more at ease.
It took me a while to get the hang of
things in the office, which meant that it took me longer than I had originally expected
to put together the finished event database for the client. I was disappointed that I was unable to
finish off the entire database that day, however this has given me motivation
to finish off my tasks more quickly when I am back at Magenta next week.
I’m really excited for what’s to come!
