It's all over! Where on earth did the time go?

I know this is a late post, but today was my very last day of my internship (I did over 20) and I wanted to reflect on my experience. The following are some of the things I have most enjoyed/learned over the course of my experience. It all flew by, I can't believe it's over!

Being very hands on with running social media. To be honest I was never really a Twitter kind of person, but I have enjoyed interacting with the organisation’s stakeholders in 140 characters or less!

Participating in the production of a talk show. Though the show is on YouTube the production side of things were very professional (with cameramen and editors etc) and some of the guests were quite high profile, which was a great experience!

Being very involved in the planning and execution of large-scale events. I worked on my communication skills with the media, subcontractors and sponsors, and got a behind the scenes view of all the tasks that are essential for a successful event.

Being able to feel like I could speak up. Interns are seen as an important part of the team at my internship and I felt comfortable enough to speak up when I felt things could be changed/improved. My supervisor always actively asked me for my feedback; even on her own work; which I really appreciated, and I feel like I did my bit to make pieces of work even better.

Developing excellent multitasking skills. A day interning could involve drafting a newsletter, then emailing subcontractors and the media, then drafting interview questions and then developing a run sheet for an event. Things were never dull!

Whilst I’m sad my experience is over, I’m excited to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my future career. I highly recommend PR students do as much work experience as possible to determine what area of PR they’d really like to pursue, I wish I’d interned more during my degree.

Best of luck to everyone else in your future PR careers and I hope your experienced have been as fruitful and enjoyable as mine!

Sarah
