Showtime!

Wednesday, 30th of September 2015. This date has been drilled into my head since the get go.

For the past four years, PSO's little sister, the Perth Chamber Orchestra, has performed the magnificent works of Vivaldi and his contemporaries to captivated audiences. This year, Vivaldi by Candlelight, returned for an even bigger and better performance.

Leading up to this concert, I was assigned many relative tasks such as posting event listings, distributing posters and flyers, writing a newsletter, fact sheet and news article. Initially I thought that the written components would be fairly easy to do, because really, you'd just use the previous work done for past Vivaldi concerts and update it. Or so I thought.

Unfortunately, this thinking set me back a bit. My supervisor suggested that I needed to find ways to show to potential audiences how this Vivaldi was different from the last. She encouraged me to look at how aspects such as, the change in venue, historical instruments and having VIP tickets for the first time, would make Vivaldi by Candlelight 2015 a stand-out show. Using this positioning, my supervisor helped me to write and publish my first ever news article.

Ready. Set. Go.

Before I knew it, after many weeks of preparation, the day finally came!

I'll admit, I am way more in love with the practical side (the events side) of things, so finally seeing all the 'PR stuff' come to life was really exciting. Walking through historic walls of St.George's Cathedral, which I wrote about in a fact sheet, was pretty cool. Surprising the VIP guests, with the surprises that I eluded to in the newsletter, was even cooler. Seeing and hearing the $1.3 million violin that I wrote about, in the flesh, was the coolest!

This is definitely the best thing about my internship - seeing the tangible results and knowing that all this 'stuff' that I do is inspiring and encouraging the people to explore the remarkable culture that is music.

Now it's time to set my sights on the next important date. Stay tuned for more!
