Over the
past few months of interning two days a week I have been witness to various
different processes and policies which currently exist within the consultancy.
There are various logs that I was constantly finding out existed for different
purposes. These are essential in a consultancy as there are various people
working on the same client, which means everything needs to be logged to ensure
everyone is up to date.
One process
that I was heavily involved in was media monitoring for various clients. A few
consultants are responsible for completing this process which includes hard
copy papers, digital papers, news websites and social media. Although the
company uses two different media monitoring programs, they aren’t able to cover
all the media we wish to monitor which means consultants also have to
physically monitor media as well.
Recently
after one of the consultants left her position at the company, it was realized
that there was no process of ensuring that all the required publications are
monitored. I was able to put together a log which the consultants fill out each
day after monitoring each piece of media. This then allows multiple consultants
to be participating in the media monitoring process without any double up
occurring and ensuring all media required is monitored through simply looking
at the log.
The second
impact I felt like I have contributed to in forging new paths in the company’s
processes was another log. This log is to assist with compiling information for
quarterly PR reports for our main client. This requires a variety of
information regarding everything done in the quarter for that client to be
pulled together for presentation to the client. Currently consultants at the
end of the quarter spend a lengthy amount of time searching through the server
to find all this information to input this data in the report. To save time and
make it easier for the consultants compiling the reports, I worked with one of
the other consultants to put together a database for each quarter which covers
everything needed for the report. I felt quite proud of the databases that I’ve
put together even though they haven’t been approved yet.
