The very first day of my internship. Thoughts circulate on what it could be like. I’ve seen Princess Diaries, surely I’ll just have to do a coffee run like Anne Hathaway, right?!
WRONG!
It’s 4pm. I've spent the day just getting a feel for the PR structure within the organisation when my supervisor receives a call letting him know that there has been a sudden cancellation for their overseas fitness retreat due to leave in a week. They concur that with such short notice, the possibility of finding someone to take their place who can afford the trip and get time off work is minimal.
But I know just the person! An influencer. Almost 25 thousand followers - fantastic exposure for a start up venture from the company.
My first 'job' is to get her on board. I negotiate with her, if she pays for her flights (only $300 return – bargain!) she’ll experience the fitness retreat for free in exchange for 3 Instagram posts a day.
Fast forward to now, she has returned home from the retreat and has generated many enquiries into the upcoming dates which have now sold out. We're able to evaluate her level of influence by a custom link that was set up to direct her followers from her social media to the company website. Not ony was it her photos that garnered such interest but
she went above and beyond what was required of her by filming many activities throughout her week. Together we were able to create this video:

Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students.
