Learning curve for life

It is coming to the end of my internship. I am feeling so sad to say goodbye to all the lovely people I have met throughout this amazing experience and the smell of freshly baked goods from the bakery next door every morning.

Throughout my experience I have learnt so much in every aspect that I would not have imagined that I could learn from a PR internship. Whilst spending time with the consultancy as a public relations consultant I not only gained invaluable experience in the marketing/business field but experienced a new and exciting perspective. Not only did I gain knowledge that assisted in performing the tasks expected of me during my internship but skills that will assist me in a myriad of different jobs and roles I expect to undertake during my working life.

Internships like this are vital in personal development as they teach skills that cannot be taught in a classroom, but instead provides experiences real life public relationships situations and issues. The placement allows and requires individuals to be accountable, consistent, act with integrity and offer exceptional service towards either other colleagues or to clients alike. Without these skills, irrespective of the individual’s knowledge or natural ability, they will not be able to effectively communicate and function within a team environment.

Personally I would like to say a big thank you to my supervisor as he has taught me so much from how to run a business to what he has learnt from when he was also in university as a PR student. It has been really inspiring for me as I now know I do want to pursue my future career in the PR industry.

I completely agree with you, the internship experience is unlike any other unit and its amazing to suddenly realise how much we know from our time at university and how much we still have to learn. I think the internships will serve us all really well in the future not only by looking good on our resumes but also giving us all confidence when attending interviews as we know we can and have functioned in real Public Relations environments and accomplished tasks set for us.

Congratulations on reaching the end, time to celebrate with some baked good from that next door bakery!
