The 10 day itch.. The good kind that is!

Where to begin? I’ve passed the official 10-day mark and have started to reflect on the incredible experience I’ve had thus far. Due to prior work commitments and finishing off semester 2 of 2015, the first two weeks interning only consisted of 2 days per week. This slightly prohibited my ability to take on much as I wasn’t able to continue working on it all week..
Having said this my first full working week certainly made up for the slow beginning. I was able to take part of an annual event for a long-standing client who is a high-end Perth jeweller. As well as a media day with Anna Gare for one of the best kitchen appliance brands in the world. Both events showed me a realistic view on the extensive work and details that goes into preparing for a PR event and media day, and what it’s like to see through both days. Including working a 12 hour day and being back in the office the next morning at 8am, which wasn't actually that bad. I guess when you love what you do it doesn't really feel like work.

Small issues arose throughout the week which proved challenging in their own ways. Changes can occur within minutes throughout the days leading up to, and on the day or night of an event. Whether it's from a client changing their mind, something not being done properly or things just not going to plan. Improvisation was key to ensuring both days ran well and it was great to see this in action by some talented PR practitioners. The ability to deal with small issues such as the ones that arose, before they become a crisis is a skill that is highly valuable for any PR practitioner and what sets us apart in the industry.

Thanks for reading my first blog, I look forward to sharing my second one in the next week or two and reading other students first blogs.
