At this stage I’m definitely feeling a lot more confident through learning new pieces of valuable information and insights, and I'm seriously loving my experience here. I feel like I am becoming a valued member of the team, and that my inputs and my opinions do count towards the work that we are doing. The girls in the office recognise that I do have a bit of knowledge in the field and I think for that reason I am taken a bit more seriously and my input into their operations are definitely more appreciated. In a small office that could be quite intimidating (and is for others), I’m definitely feeling as comfortable as I could potentially be.
At this
stage of my internship I’m being involved with a lot of their events as event
season is starting to come to an end. So far I’ve been involved with events for
Cognilab an assisted learning
company, the City of Perth in the Perth
Tourism Industry Exchange (one of the larger events) and Event &
Conference Co.’s event’s being the Creativity
Workshop and The Winning Mindset
featuring Josh Kennedy.
Throughout
experiencing all of these different types of events the one thing that they all have in common is the level of required communication and organisation. They have taught me that
an effective level of organisation and communication is key. There are so many aspects prior to an
event that need to be concise and effectively organised. In the planning and
lead up to these various range of events there’s the marketing, public relations
and planning elements that all need to be organised in a timely and effective
way if these events are to go off without a hitch. There’s so many different elements
involved that I have now seen wouldn’t be possible unless there was a serious
amount of communication and understanding throughout the team. Whatever workplace
it is and whatever field you’re working in, this is one of the biggest factors
that I have seen are able to make or break these events.
Even for the
event the ‘Winning Mindset’ there were so many elements that had the ability to
make or break the event just through the lack of communication. In contacting
Josh’s manager and several of his representatives it was determined that he did
not want media at the event, which was disappointing as there were so many
media outlets calling to be involved at this event due to his recent high
profile nature. Through miscommunications with his representatives it was later
determined after the event had concluded that he actually would not have minded
if there was media present at this the event. This definitely was extremely
frustrating and quite a letdown as media would have been a great advantage in
publicising the event and the organisation through well-known sources to the
public. Small components like this are examples of how communication and
effective organisation can have both positive and negative effects on the
success of your event- or any type of work you’re involved in for that matter.
My experience with this event is a small screenshot of what I believe is
valuable to an organisation and what I feel needs to be executed effectively in
order to experience your desired outcome. To me this is how you can achieve the 'mindset of a winner'.

It's great to feel valued in your team environment, it defiantly makes coming into work something to look forward to rather than a chore. After just starting to settle into my workplace environment I can definitely relate!
What a wonderful experience being able to host an event for Josh Kennedy, well done! The miscommunication about media at the event must have been extremely disappointing but i'm sure you will take a lot away from it, there is always a lesson to be learnt.
Good luck for the rest of your internship!
