Do Not Underestimate Social Media !

Growing up in the age of technology, it’s only natural that social media becomes a significant part of our life. It’s where we connect with people, where we keep updated with current events and where we can express ourselves. It’s hard to imagine how businesses would operate without social media. It’s because of this digital phenomenon that my past Public Relation/ Marketing reports always included discussions about social media and talking about it felt like second nature. Every year, the concept of using social media in corporate settings were basically the same: “promotes brand presence, connects with stakeholders…” Social media sounded so easy to use.

I couldn’t be any more wrong. I learnt very quickly from my internship experience at Secure2Go that social media is more complicated and time-consuming than I originally expected. It’s easy to post about yourself and your life on social media, but it’s a completely different thing when it’s for a company. And not to mention having to have a regular interesting content of the company or industry and encourage engagement, is quite difficult.

Buffer was my lifesaver, which is also a form of social media scheduling website. Before being introduced to this website, I was overwhelmed by the amount of posts I had to do in a week. How was I going to post all these in time? How would I find any interesting content in time? But thank goodness Buffer was able to lift all those worries from me.

I have a new found respect for social media manager, whose job is literally to maintain its online presence. There is a lot of pressure. It’s already quite rewarding when I see one comment or a like on my post. Now, despite my developing understanding of the power of social media, it is still quite a challenge for me to establish a presence for a tech company. I am so used to seeing animal or beauty posts that gets so much engagement due to their strong community. But how would you make technology attractive through social media posts? How would you engage with the people of Perth about wearable technology? Check out our website www.secure2go.com and its different social media platforms.
