Opening Day at Ascot 2016

Yesterday was opening day at Ascot. It was not my first time at a big event running around, but everyday you have a big event on it is different and you never really know what to expect. The focus yesterday was Myer Fashions on the Field and battling the Wind and Rain to keep people happy during the day.

Fashions on the Field is a very precious and serious event, you win a lot of prices and money for winning the state and national final. Dealing with the entrants was hard because a lot of the causal women didn't understand that the event takes most of the afternoon to conduct. Explaining to people that they had to be aware of how the competition worked, that they had to compete in heats and that it was a serious event got a lot of people very frazzled and confused as they thought entering the event would be a bit of fun not take too long and off you go.

This is not the case. Yesterday some of the entrants did not understand the seriousness of the event which really made some of them upset. Explaining to people about how it worked over and over again can be a tedious job, but you just have to do it. At university we learn the prepping and the planning, in the real world its make or break and you either sink or swim. I ran around doing all sorts of things from Sprinting in heels to run to get the flowers for the winner,  signing in all the entrants both per-registured and registering people on the day, among a huge amount of other things but it was really a fun day. As a PR person on the day of large events you are there to oversee, perfect and manage the event and to make sure that it runs smoothly and everything that is not going smoothly, is ironed out to avoid a problem becoming a crisis.

I loved every minute of the day, being dressed up among the Race goers it is exactly where I want to be and it is a really great wind up to my Internship as I only have a couple of weeks left. All the hard work of ordering floral arrangements, entertainment, furniture, sending out VIP tickets, and packing goodie bags the Myer Fashion on the Field event went really well without any major issues. I highly recommend everyone to check out Ascot over the coming Carnival Season it is absolutely amazing what is on offer this season at Ascot and is totally worth a day out at the races!

Hey Livinia,

Can totally agree with the running around that you went through / going through. Currently helping out with an event coming up with at my placement and it has been a madhouse! But at the same time I know (and agree with you), will be a very rewarding experience once its happening / concluded.
