One of the biggest things that PSO has taught me is 'ATTENTION TO DETAIL'.
PR is about communicating with your publics and this communication takes many forms. PSO believes that everything they do communicates a message. Even if it's something small, like setting up a volunteer briefing or sending out thank-you presents, PSO always takes pride in everything they do and so too am I proud to intern for them.
In that sense, although there is no dedicated department for PR, PSO essentially uses PR all day everyday.
For example, we went to the shops the other day to buy items for their volunteer briefing. Everything from what colour the napkins are, to what fruits sync well with PSO's vibrant branding was well thought of and decided on. Even the food that they provide in the office on a regular basis must somewhat resemble PSO. I noticed that one of their signatures has to be those amazing purple grapes that they seem to have an endless supply of; and also those 'Smarties' packs which they always send, along with a thank-you card, to people who have helped them out.
It also appears that their home, Scotch, has picked up on this memorable trait.

Apart from all the things that they do to look pretty, they also have team that is very capable of picking up all my spelling and grammar mistakes.
(Sighs)
Even though this should be something that a third year student studying PR should be able to master by now, it's still something I often overlook and sometimes part of the reason why I discourage myself to enter the PR industry. I just don't know if I'm cut out for it. But what I do know is that I am glad to be making these mistakes now and more importantly learning from them, whilst I am still a part of this amazing and supporting family.

Hi Simone,
You seem to be enjoying you time at PSO! I too have troubles with my spelling and grammar, just have to practice and try your best to fix them. I think the dedication PSO puts in to their marketing and promotional aspects is well thought out. Sometimes its the small details that make the most difference.
I hope you enjoy your internship with them. I wish I got cupcakes at my internship!
Good luck. I also hope you decide to continue with PR! It can be fun too :)

Hi Simone,
As a fellow student who struggles with the writing aspect of PR I strongly understand your points in this blog post. I personally found and agree that using the help available makes us stronger in our writing and at my internship I was continually triple checking with the media department for tips.
But as you pointed out the devil is in the details and it was something I found we never really learnt much about but after experiencing my internship I wish I had read this blog post before my internship had started as it would have made for an easier start.
Good luck with your future endeavors be it in PR or a different field!
Cheers, Lewis
Hi Simone,
I loved the honesty of this article. I have to agree with your work placement that attention to detail is everything. In PR it is all about making good impressions to foster strong relationships, in which those final touches really go a long way.
We all aren't perfect and grammatical errors tend to come up at times, but i agree the comment you made that it is something that all PR professionals need to work on and master. I myself find reading high quality work is a great way to improve your skills.
I wish you all the best in your future path, and hope you continue to grow in your chose profession :)
