As part of the PR theories, getting the message across to the public is through some form of communication. Social media is so important nowadays; it is the most direct and instant tool used to source our information. We rely on it so much that we get so addicted and cannot live without it. We are so obsessed with social media that we are constantly checking for updates for news, networking, gossip and basically, well, everything. When I said constantly, I mean it ranges from everyone looking down on their phones on a train ride to crossing the road while messaging. It is so dangerous and toxic.
Differences between university and working in the real world; at university we have to cite and reference everything we write. But in the real world, when we see something on the internet, is it always reliable? Do we bother checking for references? I mean after all Google is always right and we should believe everything that is on Wikipedia. Just like Orley Fenelon who has become the 30th Prime Minister of Australia, according to that irreproachable record of fact, Wikipedia.
My point is that we cannot trust everything you can find on the internet. Companies often use social media as a channel to attack other companies. Through my internship we experienced similar situations, where people leave bad reviews on Google reviews and Facebook. After some thorough research, they were all l made up accounts and their names not even on the customer database. Hence we should not trust everything we see on the internet without doing any researching or experiencing it for ourselves.
As part of my experience working as an intern, we did a lot of re-branding and trying to improve the reputation of the company. The company started off as video production company working for corporate events, live video streaming to video animation. Throughout the years of working as videographers, they noticed a service lacking in the local wedding videographer business so they then entered into the world for wedding photography. As technology advances, they have also added photo booths as part of the wedding packages or photo booths alone for events.
I have had the opportunity to help create the website for the new photo booth project with our great marketing team!

I totally agree. It can be really difficult to know whether the content you are looking at as a resource is credible, and how it can impact your organisation's reputation. I found simple things such as uploading a photo to a website can create so many issues if the correct permissions had not been attained beforehand - something extremely important to keep in mind for a company that provides photographic services.
Social media is such an important part of business nowadays, especially for a company that can make use of visual platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest to help advertise their business. I hope your organisation can capitalise on the wonderful exposure that these platforms give visual companies!
I completely agree! I'm a firm believer in the power of social media. You made an interesting point regarding fake reviews. I recently saw a Facebook friend post about his business - a new restaurant in Bondi that has generated huge public interest in the weeks leading up to its opening. Upon opening he received a 1 star Facebook review saying the food made him sick and when he called later to complain, the staff were rude and offered no compensation and that he'd rather eat at Maccas.
The owner replied by saying he knew the review was fake because Telstra are yet to connect their phone lines ending with 'Enjoy your Big Mac.'
It was fortunate that he was able to prove the companies innocence and that in your case, you could see that the reviews had to be fake because they weren't on the database but what if these fake reviews can't be disproven? It only takes 1 terrible review to ruin a companies reputation.
