A Brief Week 3 Update

A Greater Understanding- Week 3

Tanesha Brayne: 19/8/2016

Blog posts, research, excel spreadsheets and more excel spreadsheets.

The amount of thorough research that goes into successful PR work is extensive. For the past three weeks I have been researching exhibitors for the up coming De Lish Gourmet Food Expo as well as competitors nationally and internationally, exhibition stall prices and possible food bloggers who can help promote the event. I have definitely had to switch into professional mode, double and triple checking everything I produce (this more so when I was required to email event companies for enquires).

I underestimated the work that goes into running a successful events company. The role of PR is extremely important in meeting clients needs and i can only describe this role as research (seriously have done so so much googling). The demands and expectations of a client are a first priority, regardless of difficulties. I’ve realized that meeting the client’s expectations can be tedious, but must be at the forefront. Constant communication in the form of back and forward phone calls and emails are how these issues are handled. I thankfully haven't had to answer any phone calls yet, but being in such a small office where everything is heard, has informed me of these procedures. I can't help but think back to our Transmedia Storytelling crisis simulation and how important constant communication was.

For the most part I have been learning as I go, finding data and entering information into spreadsheets. Having an insight into the variety of needs and wants of real life clients has been very interesting with requirements of each differing greatly.  It's interesting when the requests of the clients do not match the companies vision and negotiation and/or re-evaluation takes place. I suppose this is just one of the negatives of working with clients in a creative process.

The only downside to my experience at the company so far has been the lack of work. I seem to be doing a lot of market research, with limited writing opportunities. Although the stress of flawless grammar and correct content are omitted when conducting research, I enjoy the process of researching for a press release or blog post more so.

Every day at my company brings something different. It's always interesting wondering what work ill have to do each day.

I have attached an image of my work space (excel spreadsheet featured of course), as well as some promotional images for the De-Lish Dessert, Coffee and Gourmet Food Expo coming in 2017.
