I am currently at the start of my third week which means I
have completed 10 out of the 20 days of my internship, half way woo!
As I am doing my internship full time along with still
trying to get uni work done and actually have a life, I can definitely say life
has been that little busy lately. I think doing my internship full time though
has been the best decision I made as it is a good way to learn and see how
things unfold day after day. In saying this, working 9-5, 5 days a week has
probably been the hardest part of my internship. My casual job is working in
retail so I am so used to being on my feet all day, talking to people and
always moving around. This is so different to working 9-5 all day sitting at a
desk all day and inside, it’s definitely something over the two weeks that I
have found hard to adjust to, especially in my second week where there wasn’t
as much work as the previous week however, Jodie and I did get to have a few
days out of the office doing a few different media drops for PPR’s clients.
If there’s one thing Jodie and I have learnt this week it
would definitely be that Google maps was the best thing invented and I honestly
do not know what we would do without our Iphones. This week we had a few days travelling
all around Perth doing important drops for PPR clients; Northbridge Brewery
Company and Main Roads. These were two totally different companies with two
totally different jobs.
Northbridge Brewery Company launched their new beer ‘The
Canimal’ and Jodie and I went around and dropped them off the new beer to
popular beer bloggers and a few radio and TV stations. Then we did a quite
different drop for Main Roads were we had to put out an important announcement
into local resident’s letterboxes of a last minute huge road closure that could
possibly affect them over the weekend. Both very different and very time
consuming.

Then to end off the week we got to attend our first Media
Op! This was super intense although we didn’t actually do much we just watched
it all go down but it defiantly opened my mind up to the stressful side of PR
and it looked really exciting to run. As the PR side of the media we were
representing Ronald McDonald House (PPR’s client) at the ‘Central Park Plunge’ event
and was working with a Bunbury family whose child stays at the house and GWN
News were picking up the story as invited by PPR. It was interesting to watch
the relationship between the PR person and the journalist and how closely the
two actually work together to ensure they get a good story that suits both
sides. This taught me how a PR person has to build this relationship with the
journalist and cater to their needs so that the story does get shared.

Once again, learning so many different aspects of PR which
is really what I wanted out of this internship so I’m very happy however,
please if anyone has any tips of how to sit at a desk all day and not go insane
send them to me haha!

Hi Jessica! Congrats on (almost) successfully finishing your internship! I 100% understand how it is to juggle uni work, internship, and other commitments, and I can agree with you that it is definitely not easy. It sounds like you've really been experiencing many different aspects of PR in the real world, and I hope that these lessons will carry you far:) All the best for the remaining of your internship!
Sounds like you are having a great time, very proud of you, on how you can balance between Uni and intern. I totally agree with the point you mention about working 9-5 all day sitting inside at a desk, it is difficult! And it is even harder if there is not much to do!
It's great seeing you gaining all those PR experience in the real world. Hope you can gain more experience from the remaining of your internship.
Oh , also hope you can find a way that you can sit at a desk all day and not go crazy, if you do, please let me know cause I probably need it too! Haha
Anyway all the best!
