Hola!
Much like you all I have been completing my internship. I
landed a role at Perth Racing and so far it has been nothing short of a fast
pace. I’m 9 days down… it has been somewhat slow out of the gates thus far
considering I started back in July!
My role as an intern is assisting the marketing manager at
Perth Racing. I have no typical day from one to the other, although adjusting
to the computer life has been somewhat difficult. Task are ranging from sponsorship
contact, stakeholder engagement, spread sheeting everything, store room
clean-up and photo shoots, these are just a few of the things I have come to
expect when arriving at work each week.
So these are some key points I have drawn from the past nine
days working under a marketing manager, in an industry full of gossip, glamour
and galloping deadlines:
Be Patient! Now
this is a skill I struggle with, but have learnt to develop quickly over the
past nine days.
Sometimes task won’t be ready, deadlines won’t be met, and staff may not have
as much time to spend assisting, but it is essential to be patient and accept
that things don’t always run as planned.
Be Assertive! It
is in times when the patience is kicking in that it is vital more than ever to
be assertive. Some task may need to wait, but it is important to keep busy and
productive in some manner. Make sure you always have a productive ‘side job’ to
fill these times.
Be You! Cliché I
know. BUT. Allowing your personality and
what you deem to be your ‘best qualities’ shine through is something I feel is
very important. Having said that it is easier said than done in an unfamiliar
environment. Please follow my next blog for more insight on how I feel this is
essential!
Thank for Reading, I
look forward to sharing again soon, and most importantly…. I promise this is
the last post full of racing puns!!

HI Gab,
Great way to bring a bit of humour to your blog, puns will never get old, they are like a good dad joke :)
Also I really like your three points, I think they capture exactly what we have learnt over the past 3 years about PR and what exactly it is we bring to the table. I find patience to be the hardest thing as I get nervous when things have a deadline, although you seem to be keeping really busy and having a great time! Keep up the good work and enjoy the rest of your internship.
