The event: WA Born

Pulling up in West Perth on a Saturday night, in an empty industrial area wasn’t quite what I was expecting to find for the location of Colosoul Groups fashion week event. As I grew closer, the faint thumping of funky music grew to be loud beats, excited conversations and the clip clopping of heels, reassuring me that I was at the right place. Walking down a backstreet alleyway, I found WA Born; hosted inside a car repair shop – restyled with flowers, draped curtains and elegant décor. Patrons inside were dressed to impress, gathered around a bright, statement runway in the middle of the venue. VIP guests were escorted to front-row seats, treated to champagne and gift bags.

The event, WA Born, is a Colosoul Group annual event that runs as part of Telstra Perth Fashion week. This year, I had the pleasure of leading the public relations side of the event, and ensuring its smooth success.

Pre show preparation included obtaining sponsorships, sending out media kits and media releases, organising the VIP guest list and sending out invitations, as well as the social media management of the event page.

On the night, guests were treated to “fashion with a cause,” with proceeds from the show going to The Organ Donation and Transplant Foundation of WA. Being a local brand, Colosoul Group also uses the show to put grassroots designers on the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival platform – so all designers showcased were emerging or established WA brands.

All of the designers presented collections that exhibited talent, uniqueness and hard work. The show may not have had the flawless presentation of higher brands, but was the perfect way to showcase local talent and kick off fashion week for a great cause. It was a beautiful night, and a huge commendation to the entire Colosoul Group team that worked so hard on the event. Whilst it was an enjoyable, and exciting experience – I have to admit, I am relieved that it is over (until next year)!

Hi,
Waow this looks so cool!!! In fact, even if I did not get the chance to be involved in the preparation of a fashion event, I have helped with the preparation of a few types of events and I have to agree that as the event gets closer, there are more and more works to handle at the office. It was getting very stressful at times as we had to fix the last minute details but simultaneously keeping the pace with our daily activities. It is a rich experience but, as you may also agree, it’s a real relief when the event is over.
