The most recent thing I've been doing at my internship is writing up charity documents to promote the charities each festival Sunset Events have designated. The document includes a backgrounder on each charity and why we decided to choose that particular one. Most of them are locally based around Perth. This was a really interested document to write as I learnt some new things about the companies. I also worked very closely with organising Blues and Roots 2015 as the event was only last weekend. I was on duty to create signage for the event day, design passes for our VIP's and the Blues and Roots event info sheet that was to be given out to all media crews, site crews and anyone closely related to organising the event. 

The event organising aspect was very interesting and I felt very involved with the company and was a chance to showcase my writing skills. Although this was closely linked to the marketing team rather than the P.R team, I felt that it was all quite relevant. 

Working at the actual event was a really great experience that provided me with a lot of PR experience. I was liaising between my events and marketing and other event companies present at the festival. I also worked closely in providing communication between the relevant stakeholders of the event and the event organisers. Overall it was really fun and a very hands on day.

Media relation is one the most critical task for all of the public relations practitioners. As taught in Media Relations 250, public relations practitioner are always be encouraged to proactively in building and maintaining the relationships with all kinds of media outlets.

Goodies bag for Christmas

From Media Relations 250 I learned that frequently get in touch with the media outlets will help the company gain a space in publicity, it is especially useful in crisis management. When the company is able to sustain a long term relationships with media it will always help the company one step forwards other competitors. However, obstacles did exist. It always a controversial issue regards gift giving among the industries. Thus, as a public relations practitioner, we need to know the line of the boundary and comply with it.

When I undertake my internship in Eastern and Oriental Hotel, I learned that the important festivals are being seems as the right moment to keep in touch with the media outlets. For instance Merry Christmas and Chinese New Year. The public relations officers of the hotel are always required to brainstorming in thinking a goodies bag that can promote the image of the hotel. It needs weeks and weeks in creating the ideas, after that the officers need to communicate to the others department for their cooperation. For example we need to order the gift pack holder from the Supply Department, come out with the food and beverage that need to put into the goodies bag and communicate with the related chef as to see whether the size of the pastry can fit into the gift pack holder.

Goodies bag for Chinese New Year

 For hotel industry, goodies season is the period that public relations can use to introduce it latest food and beverage to the media. In the mean while, media are expect to receive a goodies bag that can represent your company; therefore it is suggested to put together with the media kits that include the latest information and promotion. This media pack will help the company in promoting their latest movement and let the media grabs the first hand information. Besides, business card is always required to put inside as the media will bear in mind that who is the person that represent the company’s public relations.

A creative goodies pack will receive an unexpected outcome. For public relations officers this is the time for brainstorming; outstanding ideas will always help media to trigger the desire to learn more on the company’s latest movements.
