getting youth to sign up as a member of a political party can be almost impossible

Good Morning ladies and gentleman, This is my second post and I'm going to talk about getting the youth to be interested with politics. It may sound impossible because I was the person who swear that I'm not involve myself with politics because I always thought politics is dirty and ugly, people would do anything to be on top, be it a murder. And here I am, working for a political party and getting people who happened to have the same thought back then.

So, me and my colleagues came up with a 1 month plan to get at least 20 young members to sign up for this political party and this plan is consists of 3 events that happens every weekend. and THANK GOD WE MANAGED TO GET 24 new members !!! so, we named our event waSUPP because basically waSUPP stands for W - we A- are SUPP - the political party, Sarawak United People's Party. and we thought that it's pretty catchy, fresh and acceptable for young adults . We even have our own waSUPP handshake, and we greet each other with the handshake. it's pretty fun you know!!
Okay, the first week, we held an event called Sunset Charity. First activity was the young adults get to play soccer beach and tug of war with the leaders and after that, we did a beach cleaning. We raised about RM 3.2 k for the PIBAKIS centre,to buy them toiletteries and that's our activity for the second week.

Creating a community internationally

Curtin is a very internationally focused university. Many of our students at the Bentley campus are international students. There are also other campuses in WA, over East, and in many other parts of the world. When students who study locally go back home overseas, it becomes hard to keep a Curtin Alumni community strong. Previously, I was discussing the idea of centralising or decentralising our efforts to keep in contact with our Alumni. The Chapter idea is being kept as a primary way of strengthening our international community.

The ISSUE: Managing these communications with the Chapters so there is harmony and unity amongst messages and representation.

At the moment, the Chapters are practically autonimous. They are managed by enthusiastic and passionate staff and alumna. We are there to provide funding, support, or organisational efforts, or just contacts.

Previously, there has been a lack of communication between these Chapters and the Alumni office. The Alumni office has not been active enough in maintaining and nurturing these relationships. At the meeting we decided that as a central office, we MUST be active and not passive. We must establish and target those regions that produce the greatest number of graduates / applicants and work on developing a stong international Curtin alumni community.

So, we picked 5 regions that produced the greatest number of graduates, or had the greatest number of contactable graduates. We plan to work closely with those relevant Chapters and make those regions our focus for the short term to kick off our plan to create a better, stronger international alumni community.
