Through Programmed's partnership with the Fremantle Dockers - Programmed arranged for the Fremantle Dockers players Tanner Smith, Alex Howson, Max Duffy and Jack Hannath to visit Harmony Primary School in Atwell.
Programmed Total Marine Services Claims Assistant, Ann El-Ansary and The Jandakot Jets Junior Football Club won the footy clinic through Programmed from last year’s Round 17 Children’s ticketing offer.
Players Jack Hannath, Alex Howson, Tanner Smith and Max Duffy lead the group of 6-8 year olds in hand ball drills and kicking competitions.
The kids where then able to ask a few questions, get their posters signed and grab a photo with the players.
During this event, I was assigned to go down with my Supervisor Kate Sossi to take pictures for this event for Programmed's internal publication.
I believe that PR comes with flexibility in what we do, that we should be able to communicate, execute good writing skills and also have some photography knowledge as every media release would have to be inserted with pictures.
Since I have done an elective unit called Design Elements where I learnt the basics of using a DSLR camera and photography which I believe benefited in my Journalism and PR degree because I believe photography links really well to PR instead of hiring a photographer you are able to take your own pictures.
The challenges I faced during the day was not anything major, I had to be quick while taking pictures and I had to run around with the kids and the dockers players to capture moments of them and the kids in the oval.
I would never have imaged to be taking pictures of the dockers players one day, and also being up close to them introducing myself and also getting an autograph!
I am glad that I was given a once in a life time opportunity and I would greatly encourage for those of you who have electives to take a photography unit as you always use it in your PR degree wherever you go. It looks impressive for your future employers as they do not have to hire a photographer for a small and quick event that you could probably attend and take pictures.
