Pustaka @ Open Day

This year Curtin Open Day, Pustaka are invited to open their booth and organize few games at the kid’s corner. On that day, the staffs are doing registration and Ms Sofina and Lillian ask me to find people to join Pustaka membership because I’m a Curtin student. I’m so glad because few of my friends get to register to Pustaka as this is a very good opportunity to join as membership because first the fees is only RM 1 for WHOLE LIFE and secondly we might don’t get the chance to go Pustaka because we might don’t have time to register or we are too busy but now Pustaka is coming to us. I also given a chance to handle the registration booth and at the end around 5pm we managed to get 75 people to register and few more people renewed their membership. I am so happy on that day because I learnt how to communicate and presenting my self to the public.

It was tiring day but it was fun and awesome. That is because I’m not working alone and the cool supervisor always there me for me. That makes me feel more confident and calm. Whenever the public ask regarding policies or question that I'm not sure, the other staff will take over. After this event, I’m going to work on my next event which is “Go Green and 1 Malaysia” photo exhibition. It’s happening soon.

Welcome Back to Tenby International School Miri

Hi, everyone!

As promised in my previous post, I will be sharing the preparation and the things happen on Tenby Open Day 2013 and Tenby School Reopen today.

Tenby Open Day was held on 27th August 2013 but it took two weeks for me and my colleagues to complete it. Before the open day, me and my colleagues were fully occupied on the designs of the leaflet and the lay out of the Tenby International School Miri new campus so that the leaflet will be able to be distributed on time. Meanwhile, we also helped the staff to do some simple tasks when we were free  although these were not really related with the PR such as unpacked the boxes and arrange the books. Before the Open Day, my colleagues and I were being informed that what should we do and don't on that day by our supervisor and management executive. 

The objective of the Tenby Open Day is to allow the parents and students to familiarize themselves with the new environment before the school starts. Before the Open Day, Tenby staff had emailed the parents to inform them the upcoming event. Nevertheless, the map layout of the new campus also send as attachment with the invitation mail. On the Open Day, there is a hard copy prepared and distributed to the parents. Parent also being guided by the staff and us to have a side tour on the new campus. 

Tenby International School Reopen on 2nd September 2013. On the day School Reopen, there was an assembly in the early morning. The assembly was started by the Tenby Principle Mr Philip Brisley by giving a welcoming speech to the students and parents. Parents, teachers and staffs attended the assembly as well. 

After Mr Philip finished giving his speech, Denise Sinclair (School Improvement & Development Manager of Tenby School Ipoh) also being invited to give a speech on the school reopen.

After half an hour of the assembly, students were led by the teachers to their own class.

Most of the parent were going to the office to pay the registration fees and asking for additional information. My colleagues and I were assisting the staff on serving the parents. On that day, I learnt how to deal with different people from different background. As some parents are from Western country and Asian country, the way they behave and expectation are totally different. It really was surprising me a lot.

This is a new semester. A new beginning.

Hi everyone!

As this is my first post for PR393 Reflective Blog, I am glad to write a little bit about myself and the place I worked at. My name is Moh Su Tin and please call me Chris. I am from Sarawak, Malaysia. Currently, I am studying at Curtin University Sarawak and majoring in PR and Management. This semester is my final year and hopefully it will be my final semester. 

For the purpose of the assignment, I, as a PR student have conducted my internship at Tenby International School Miri. Tenby International School Miri is the only International Private School in Miri which provides Early Years Programme, Primary and Secondary. Previously, Tenby International School was located at Piasau Camp. In August 2013, Tenby International School just recently moved to a new campus which located at Senadin (Beside Curtin University Sarawak) and start the school on September 2013.

I started my internship on 1st August 2013 with my friend, Vivian Lee. After a week, there is a new colleague join us as intern and her name is Wong Pei Ling. During the internship, we were led by our supervisor, Esther Choo, the marketing executive.  

On the first day of my internship, Tenby International School Miri was just moved to a new location. Thus, there are not much work to be assigned to us. Henceforth, Vivian and I were assigned to help to check the stocks for the upcoming event - Tenby Open Day and Curtin Open Day.

On the second day of my internship, me and my colleague, Vivian Lee were asked to do a survey at Bintang Mega Mall accompanied by our supervisor. During distribution of the survey forms, we also gave out the Tenby Info card to the public who help us to fill in the form. On coming Monday, me and Vivian were requested to change the location to Permy Mall and continue the survey to get different group of participants. After the survey was done, we were asked to do a summary report and submit to our supervisor. This is our first task during the internship period.

After Pei Ling joined us, Elsie, the Management Executive and our supervisor, Esther had a short briefing with us about our job scope and brought us to the tour while introduced the staff to us. Meanwhile, I was assigned to do the competitor analysis and the map for the Tenby Open Day held on 1st September 2013.

Up to this point, I hope you guys have a better understanding on me and the place I worked at. Guess I will just stop at this point. Next week I'll post about the preparation and the Tenby Open Day.
