I had experienced some technical difficulties as I could not register as an
author for this blog. But Katharina had solved the issue for me so you need to
expect getting posts from me every day to catch up on the ones I should have
posted weeks ago.
Anyhow I started the internship at Mirvac Hotels and Resorts
on the March 22, 2012.
I have never experienced working in an office before so this is my first time blending with Marketing and Public Relations experts and let me tell you, first day on the job and I fell in love with it already!

My supervisor gave me a project for my first week of
internship. She asked me to do a research on 3rd party websites
about Mirvac Hotels in WA which include Citigate Hotel, Quay West Resort Bunker
Bay, The Sebel Residence East Perth, and The Sebel Mandurah. I had to go through
websites such as Trip Advisor, Bookings.com, Wotif.com, and a lot more, and see
whether we already have the new pictures uploaded on those 3rd party
websites. I also needed to see whether they have already updated the new
parking price so I had to have a read through all 49 websites I managed to find
on Google. I enjoyed looking through the websites yet it was tiring! I really
did not think office job would be much more exhausting than waitressing.
I did the project for the first 2 days, after the project is
finished the fun part begun!
Since it was a week before Easter, the marketing team had organized a “chocolate day”. The team gathered and packed bags of chocolates to be given to our loyal clients as an appreciation. The office smelled like chocolates for days! To be honest I did not like putting hundreds of stickers on hundreds of plastic bags because I did it all by myself. But my supervisor told me “well you’ve got to know the downside of the job too!” Another “downside of the job” I had to do was also to fold hundreds of brochures for their “Mirvac Stars” program to be distributed to travel agents.

My supervisor, Carla, also showed me one of the most
important things of working in PR or Marketing department, which is to keep
checking your emails! She told me it is the most efficient and effective form
of communication, and she also told me that she has to reply to at least 30
emails every day. I was like “Wow”.
I felt very welcomed on my first week on the job. Everyone was being really supportive and
nice! Although I haven’t had a chance to reflect what I have learned in
university in the first week, I believe I will have the chance to shine in the
upcoming weeks and I can’t wait for it!
