Hi every body !
Finally the last day of 3years of hard work coming to an end ! I would like to share my last moment at my internship with you. It lasted for more than 1 month and I left the internship with a heavy heart. I really enjoyed the work during my stay at the resort. The working environment is very professional, yet there is always someone to make you smile whenever it gets hard.
Team work is a very important and essential quality everyone must have. It helps to get more work done effectively and in less time efficiently.
More important thing that i learn is about the importance of networking in the PR field. Networking combine with our capabilities for sure each one of us will succeed. I can say that i learned a lot during my stay. Even the fact that i was not in the PR department, i did contribute to a large number of internal communication tasks and even to some other PR-related works. I not only learn the ways of doing of PR in the resort but also had a general view about the evolution of PR in the local context.
To end up I will like to thank everyone of you who make me want to come home and check if the blog has been updated or not ! till then !

Internship leading to job offer
Hi everybody,
Im currently on a formation programme at the Grand Mauritian Hotel which forms part of the group starwood hotels. The resort is present under the name of the group The luxury collection in Mauritius. I am to work as PR coordinator. I have to report directly to the Director of Communications Mr Jason Barry and to the General Manager.
The PR job consists more of dealing with external media communication compare to my internship where the PR work was based much more on the internal aspect of the organisation. I've been through a tour of the hotel, its amazing !
I've received this offer while on my internship at Four Seasons Resort where I was doing my placement. It makes me very happy.
There is also the fact that the GFC has not affected some parts of the industry, in Mauritius some industries are recruiting massively.. and there's more companies which are outsourcing services from companies implemented here. Im stressing on this part because I know that most of us are in our last sem !

Men and PR
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing fine with your respective internship ! From my side I have a gender issue to share with you, folks - Men in the PR sector. There was a post made by Sabrina one of my classmates about this topic. So I thought of expanding on this issue as I faced it too !
This is my second post, I was a bit confused about the posting, whenever its on blog 1 or blog2, but now its fine. I was doing my internship at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius. I am in the HR dept which is responsible for the internal communication of the organisation.
I was a bit surprised when some colleagues asked me why I choose the PR field with the perception that it is a field 'dedicated' to women. But what matters, whether being a male or female its about the ability to do the job properly. The most used PR example is Richard Brandson Of Virgin.
Also many people I met, confuse PR with guest relations ! Sometimes, there are even some people who will mock me, but with time after seeing my work, they understood how distorted their point of view about PR was. This is where I try to make them see the difference. How we PR people work and what are our skills. I am sure most of u, if not all, will agree with me that PR can be regarded as a professional job like lawyers or doctors, because of the specific knowledge and skills we learn.
Someone who does not have this knowledge is not really a PR person. So, when they saw the daily newsletter I was making they begin to understand the role of PR and how it contributes to the internal communication of the organisation. They still have to see the international one ! hehe !
The daily newsletter was basically about the employees activities being held, like football, volleyball, carom, domino and table tennis. It was a knock out tournament between the several departments.
Also I met with the PR Director, Mrs Rhena Bhunwaree, who encouraged me a lot. She appreciated the fact to see a male in such a position. And after 7-8 days of work, she shows much appreciation on my work and efforts involved as to-be graduate. I was offered to join her dept, as there is a vacancy for a PR Co-ordinator. But this will be for later on, when the semester ends. ;)
To conclude I would like to say "where there is a male, there is a way," also in every Fe'male' there is a male !!! PR field, here comes the Male !

My first post ! ;)
Hello PR buddies,
I am Abhishek from Charles Telfair University, Mauritius. Finally Im getting access to post here :). It seems that you all are having a good time with your internship.
I'm doing my 21st day of internship at the Four Seasons Resort, Mauritius. I am in the HR dept which is responsible for the internal communication of the organisation. I report directly to the HR Director, Mr Jhumun. I have been assigned to develop, design and write the newsletter for FSR, Mtius. Its a very interesting task and a very challenging one, as the newsletter will be sent to all the FS resorts worldwide.
For those of you who do not know where Mtius is found, it is in the indian ocean to the East of Madagascar. It is one of the leading hotels in the world and has the biggest and most 'sophisticated' golf course in the southern hemisphere.The last American championship was held here. There is a total staff of 432 on the resort and golf.
Now, lets get to the serious things !! On my arrival the first day i was given a complete tour of the resort, to meet the employees, to chat with them and break the ice with all the directors and dept heads. It was a really good experience since i met people from different countries speaking different languages. In Mtius expats speak more english and french ! My luck as we Mauritians, we can speak both. There are also other international trainees namely from France, Italy, Switzerland, UK and China in the various departments. Its a good opportunity to apply what we learnt in class about culture clash. For instance, on my second day I was not aware that chinese people bow to say hello, I shaked hands with the guy, he was a bit confused not knowing what was going on. lol ! From that day, I bow everytime I meet him and he puts his hand forward to greet me !! Thats how at times i get a goodd laugh when work stress is on.
I am also involved in organising a game tournament for the employees. The tournament is being organised on a knock out basis. Games are dominos, table tennis, carom, volleyball and football. I play in the HR team and the second week we won a football match by 5 - 0. Its hard to play foot after 2 years, nevertheless i managed to score 2 goals. ^_^
There is much to do before these events, I have to organise for a photographer (an employee who is volunteer), confirm the football pitch, arrange for refreshments and so on. For the indoor games I have to set and confirm the fixtures, arrange for a photographer and sometimes for a referee.
The interesting PRpart is that every day before 10 a.m, for my first two weeks i had to send a one page newsletter to all the employees about the games held the previous day. At first it was a bit time consuming and complicated (since long was not using publisher) but after 3 4 days it was done quickly and in a more professional way !
