Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is enjoying their placements and learning
valuable skills and insights. I certainly have in these last couple weeks
interning at Secure2Go. 20 days have come by so quickly, where did all that
time go? Despite the early mornings and feeling quite insecure at times, I have
learnt so much. I’ve also made great relationships with some amazing people in
the office. One lady in the office has
the same university background as me: Marketing and Public Relations, and I
feel so lucky to have her as my supervisor.
From my time at Secure2Go, here are some tips for those
- Find your placement early – preferably during the semester break. I know we all want to relax and enjoy the holiday rather than working, but you won’t regret it! Whilst everyone will be panicking on finding one during the semester as the due date comes closer, you can have a peace of mind.
- Don’t feel intimidated – this applies during the application process as well. If you feel intimidated and unworthy of the position, it will definitely reflect on how you present yourself, even on paper. This will let you miss your chance.
- Be Professional (arrive early, dress well and do your work) - I know this seems like a no brainer but I’ve seen other interns that continuously come late, dress inappropriately and snapchatting instead of working. Supervisors aren’t stupid, they know. So if you want a job, be professional!
- Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t get employment – it may not be because of you. Maybe they just don’t have a position for you. Either way, take this internship as a learning experience.
- Network – get to know the people in the office. Make a good impression. You never know if they can be the people that offer you a job or learn a few things from them.
Despite my internship technically ending, I’ve decided to
continue interning there. Unfortunately, because the company is still in its introduction
stage, they are not ready to give employment opportunities just of yet.
However, they are willing to employ interns, including myself. As great as it
sounds that they are considering me, there is a risk on how long will I have to
wait. I have decided to continue interning at the company to possibly keep that
opportunity, whilst I also look for other graduate positions.
