Public Relations + Administration work

hello everyone!

A very good platform to be! i thought im on the holidays no more presentations. My surpervisor assigned me the task of
presenting during our Normal visits to the Company by schools and the public who want to tour around our studios, Radios and Television Networks. The task increased my level of cofidence and efficient communication skills. Task took me back to school presentations including the "Pitch" that we learned last semester in PR 300( consultancy).

In PR profession goes along with good public speaking and professional communication infront of your clients and Bosses as well as the audience at large.Normally during the presentation which is done before the studio tour, i carry on the introduction which consists of company profile, who we are, what we are doing, and how. And then pass to my boss to finish up.

i also had the chance to explore other areas of PR such as
Media interviews- Question and Answer document. After the interview which was carried out between our bosses and the media, i assisted in updating the script for future use. i hope my colleaque from the same college, you remember how interesting media interview was in Class; one has to be a spokesperson and one the repoter.....i remeber i was the reporter and we came up with a script before presenting in class and it was interesting.

Event plan- i was also given a task to develop a master checklist and a running schedule for most of our events of which they are so many to mention from Corporate visit to the company intranet launch( People Connect). i learned a lot in preparing for this lauch and corporate visits. this also took me back from what i learned in PR 250 at the Uni.

We also had
corporate meetings which involved the staffs and bosses. This meetings builts up my skills on fulfiling the roles of planning, understanding as administrative staff, work and time management as well as managing my communication efficiently. I also acquired the skills of how the risk management team operate in the company since we ( Corporate Communication Department) had guidance and educative meeting with them concerning the company operation.

my training did not engage only doing things practically but gaining knowlege from the outsiders. all the trainees were assigned to read the article about
Corporate Social Responsiblity ( CSR) on SME & Entrepreneurship Magazine by Jennifer Lee and Richard Wong. it was entitled CSR- what and How to go about It! i discovered that Social Resposibility makes a good business,is not just ethical concern. being socially responsible benefit the business or organisation further down the line.SR gives the company a great ability to do good and gain more trust from the key publics.
The best CSR comes from within the company, when members care about change for better and embrace new ideas. I also discovered the tips to embrance CSR;

  • Get Training

CSR begins with the organisation before emerging to the outsiders. The organisation must improve its employee's qualifications while improving retention and productivity areas. the employees must be ready to compete at the highest level so that the organisation gains an advantage over its competitors. ofcourse this is what i saw in my organisation, they are offering short trainings for adminisatrators and managers in order to build their skills on fulfiling roles of planning and understanding, time management and improve quality increased speed of work. They also provide training to non staff for example: Journalists Pre Entry Course

  • Charities and Good Causes

The organisation must get a charity to work with and support good cause as a way of encouraging mutual benefit through a litle relationship building.

-My company supported campaings through contributions of their media assets, this include airtime on commercial TV, Radio airtime, news announcements, interviews and appearances on talk shows. The oragnisation invest and engage in community investments activities as a way of embracing its CSR.

  • Environment Care- Recycling Papers- to be fair and honest, before reading this book i only knew about charity

" since my training i realised that there is a big connection among the organisation's responsibilities to its employees, customers, communities and stockholdres and that resposiblitycorporate citizenship and helps protect the long term sustainablity of the organisation"

Clients Relations + Experience of the real world industry

Im back again

hello everyone, my happiness for being part of MPB increases everyday because each and everyday i learn something new and sometimes i don't know what to share with you that is why i take time to post because my head full of brilliant ideas of which my future company will praise to have me as part of their managerial team. I am ready to deliver and take what i learned from MPB to the next level.

since my very first day of arrival i was engaged in corporate visit- planning and arranging for both corporate and normal visit within the company. The planning include making and receiving calls, booking the venue for presentation, arrange refreshments, reserve the car parking for the VIPs on that day, prepares the Goody Bags, power point for the company profile and ensure that the studios are ready for the tour and keep in touch with our technician.

i discovered a lot from this visits. At the University it was not clear on my side on the strategies and tactics of attracting clients to the company or Organisation. I realized so many things; during corporate visit our company share the business with clients and this is a great opportunity for a client to know where to invest on the services we offer. Almost each and everyday there is a visit, there is no a time to rest and the strategy is working well for the company and its a way of creating a good relations with clients.

Private companies, government ministries for example Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and PR department of Thai Government, political parties, local schools and the public at large as our audience. On the 19th of July we had a Lunchon of MBP and Direct Selling Association of Malaysia at The Dorset Hotel.I also took part in planning for the event from the beginning to the end.

Finally got exposure of knowing and meeting public figures of which is a good experience to me as Intern. As a future Public Relations Practitioner, the task groomed me for good planning skills, communication skills , meeting deadlines, how to treat and approach people of different status. i think i am ready to take care of the prime minister, hahaha. Further more, working in international platform as a foreigner taught me a lot of things, how to mingle, treat, deal with people of different culture, see how they do things, because in life we never know what the future has for us. I am ready to work in any part of the world.

i hope we are learning a lot in our placement, i hope we "don't learn to forget". lets take this as a package for the future.

My head is burning with new ideas different from what i learned at the college, i can't wait for my time to join the industry permanently!

stakeholder relations

Helo everyone!!

Being part of the Media prima corporate team has made me to recognise the connection between an organisation and stakeholders. i realized very well that employees are the heart of the organisation, every step the organisation take, they must be informed. During my task of media monitoring, very important aricticles are taken to the buletin boards so that every employee can be able to see it for the benefit of his or her own knowledge on what the company is doing.

I am also given the task of updating People Connect ( intranet) of which is the platform where employees shares information. This task took me back to recognise the importance of new media which i learned at the Uni. media prima also uses social network platforms to obtain feedback from the public as its audience and viewers. i also realized that internal communication strengthens employee relations because since im engaged in this tasks i have seen employees reacting to the messages posted to them.

Being part of the events organising team has opened my eyes. At the Uni i thought that event is all about launching, promotion, advertising etc. but since my placement at Media Prima, i learned that events are also important in reinforcing employee relations, for example we had two events the Durian feast( internal) and Media Prima family day @ Sunway Lagoon on the 10th july. The aim of this two events was to fortify employee relations.

From now onwards, i have the ability to plan events well since i know all the requirements and with the skills i obtained from Media prima and at the Uni.

To all my fellow friends, i wish you the best on your practical journey

My experience at Media Prima Berhad, Malaysia

Training in Media Prima Berhard exposes me to a lot of things not only PR related but also related to the field of Mass communication.Media Prima owns 4 Tv stations, 3 radios, newspapers, event management group, content creation, outdoor advertising etc (ALL IN ONE ROOF).Its a great pleasure to be part of Media Prima corporate team because im given access to its above mentioned subsidiaries and the taste of PR profession.

Media prima indulge more into PR activities such as media monitoring, Corporate social responsibility, events management, reinforcing media relations, stakeholder relations; employees and clients relations, the general public as its audience and viewers as well as government relations.

At school i only had a clue of how the organisation deals with the above key publics indicators, but since i joined Media Group everything is life no more imaginations. i have a big picture of what public relations is because i'm also part of the team and i make things happen.

my first week i was introduced to monitor how the media covers the company; reading newspapers and Blog monitoring. i learned a lot of things from this task. At first i thought that the aim of monitoring the media is to see its coverage of the company, but i discovered that media monitoring is very crucial for a firm to spot its competitors in order to position itself well in a very competitive environment. As a PR practitioner, you have to be equipped with what is happening around you and the world at large, so media monitoring increased my awareness of the world's activities.

i'm so glad to be among the loving family 'Media Prima' with spirit of togetherness and its a privilege to see myself in a real working environment as specially in a corporate communication where PR is flowing..........
