The end of a wonderful journey!

I cannot believe that its already over, seems like yesterday that I just entered the office for my first day of work and I have finally reached the end of my internship. I feel a bit nostalgic leaving behind the office scenery and Imagine Communication’s team, after working nearly a month there I got used to always being there early in the morning and spending my day there. But I have been proposed to join back the team any time I wished to, so I know that I always can come back to Imagine Communication if I decide to. I feel a lot more prepared for the PR industry after this internship, I have learned so much and now feel like I have greatly matured and developed as an employee and a person. Imagine Communication has prepared for the business world and taught me how to manage and adapt to any situations that I may face in the future. I feel very grateful for all the knowledge and experience that this internship has given me and I would do it all over again without any hesitation. It felt great finally applying all the techniques that I learned in my PR classes in real life situations and I now know for sure that I would like to work in the PR industry in the near future. I know that there is much more to come in the future and that I have a lot more to experience but my journey at Imagine Communication is one that I will always remember. The end of this wonderful chapter of my life leads to another full of new experiences, new people to meet and new knowledge to gain. I may or may not be going back to Imagine Communication next year but I will certainly be on the look for a new job in the PR and communication industry as a part timer.

All Done and Dusted

I am FINALLY posting my final blog for my PR internship, even though I finished over 2 months ago, I wanted to post it at this time so you guys could benefit as you are about to finish up your internships.

Well, well, well, this brings me to the end of my internship blogs, and I would just like to say a huge thank you to the team at CBH for taking me in with such welcoming arms. My overall experience has been well worth the hour long commutes into the city centre and the constant walking in high heel boots. 

I would just like to give a tip to those of you who are finishing up their internships, make sure you let the workplace know how much you appreciate them dedicating extra time and effort to give you work to do, and thank them for the both work and personal level you got to know them on. Below is my final email I sent on my last day, as a general thank you to everyone who I worked with in my corporate affairs and marketing team. 

“ Hi Team!

This is my last day and I would just like to thank you all for the dedication you have given to me in my time here at CBH.

My time here has been great and I have experienced what it is like to be involved with a team that works so closely together. Thank you for letting me tag along to your meetings and giving me real jobs to do while I was here. 

I wish you all the best, especially Sarah, Nikki and Jody with your soon adventures. Have a great time!!

Thank you for a great internship! And I will be sure to write some positive notes about you all in my Final Report. Also cheers Roz, Kate and Matt for being boss pod buddies, and Sarah, Susan and Christine on my days in pod one! 

Will miss being part of the CBH team and I will see some of you at the Dowerin Field Day, and other farming things I am sure. 

Keep representing us farmers well!!

Throughout my time I created a very personal relationship with a lot of the women in my office. Therefore making an email such as this one very appropriate to show my gratitude to everything they had done for me over my time.  I cannot emphasise enough how important it is, good experiences or bad, to say thank you. It is something we are losing in today’s world and I believe people who dedicate so much free time to you appreciate this at least.

As a final parting gift to my group I left chocolates and some slice, this is something I do regularly and was a slight bribe as they are now on my resume as a reference. Remember to be smart as this is one of our first experiences into the PR world which we wish to enter.

ANY WHO, over my past four blogs you have read my rants, my confusion and most importantly my interest in what we do. So now I say good bye and GOOD LUCK! Make every last day worth it!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

Well this is my final blog post. Before I sum up the unit, I just wanted to go through my last couple of weeks as I worked on my companies biggest event of the year; The Pink Ribbon Ball. It was the 10^th anniversary of the ball so it was a huge deal to the company, the cause and the sponsors. My self and the other Curtin intern were in charge or the whole night and it went pretty smoothly, definitely the smoothest of all the four events for 2013. We had some great entertainment, one of which I sourced myself; Nylon, which were amazing to see, a moving testimonial speaker and we raised a lot of money through the raffle and auction. It was a great experience to have worked on the event from the very beginning, from sponsorship to acquiring the venue and organising raffle and auction prizes and then to be there on the night to see it all fall into place. Barbara (the CEO) was definitely happy with the result and it was a great ending to my 9 months at Momentum Forum Events. 

Overall it has been an eye opening experience to the world of PR and the Not for Profit Industry and it really allowed me to take everything I learnt from my university degree and apply it to the company. I definitely enjoyed the feeling of pride and accomplishment when you get to see your event that you have worked on for months and months come to life and turn out to be a success and that will be something that I will definitely take away with me. 

I’m still up in the air about whether I want to continue interning at the company. I think I need really sit down (once uni it over) and think about where I want to go and what my goals are and see if I can achieve them where I am at, but regardless,  it was an invaluable experience, one that I thoroughly enjoyed and one that will definitely come in handy for future jobs; my portfolio alone will help me gaining my dream job as I have a lot of work I can take away with me.

Momentum Forum Events

The culmination of 20 days that transformed theory into practice

As the old saying goes: every good thing comes to an end…I finally came to the last day at Logos Publicity. Time for me to make a retrospective of the twenty days spent as a PR trainee. It might seem quite short but in just these twenty days, I was able to transform theory grasped throughout these three years into practice. I just cannot believe that I was able to do so many amazing things in one month.

Though, I must admit that the first two weeks were quite harsh. It took me some efforts to adapt to a new working environment and new ways of functioning. Getting to know new people was not that easy. The working place being a small community, finding a place into it was not an easy task as people always see you as the newbie who is not going to stay here for a long time. But anyways, beginnings are always frightening…

Fortunately, time turned strangers into co-workers. And I got to have an insight of the Public Relations world.  An abundance of possibilities was unfolding. Looking back, I think that if I was not that intimidated by this first experience of PR maybe I would have done more things. As when the days went by, I got more confident about my capabilities. I was even astonished when the boss came to ask us about our opinion on certain things.

I was no more scared about asking questions or voicing out my opinion about an issue. Being a trainee, you always have that fear that maybe you are not doing the right thing. Maybe your question is silly or your proposal does not count as you have no real experience. Why would your way of thinking matter?

I guess the training did not only give me the opportunity to turn theory into practice, but it also changed my personality. I am more confident now. I will always be grateful to Logos Publicity for giving me the chance to work there. It was a great experience and I have always wanted to know how it is like to work for an advertising agency. Maybe one day I might shift and opt for Publicity, for I have fallen in love with advertising. It is such a thrilling field. By now, you must have all finished your internship too. I hope you had an amazing experience.
