Into the wild, the truth behind practice.

Hey there,

I'm  Beatrice Etiennette from Charles Telfair Institute (CTI) , Mauritius Campus.
I started  my internship on a full-time basis two weeks back and I should say that its been a real life experience. I  choose to do my internship in a PR and Events firm because I thought it'll be more stimulating considering that I am doing my degree in Tourism, Events and Public Relations.  I've been waiting for this internship for long and when I finally got it, I felt scared not to be able to meet my expectations. But when I got to start it, I emerged in a complete new dimension.

The people I've come to work with made my start very comfortable. I started by doing some news monitoring which I thought was boring but it helped me get used to their main clients and their activities. I still have to do the news monitoring everyday and I find it very time consuming but in the end i know it will help me understand the real demands of clients.
 
The more stimulating part of those two weeks i think was to work on an event and understand how demanding this can be; how organized things have to be and how every detail, from the minor one, is important when planning the event. I also learned to do reports and calculate advert spaces in newspapers, which was interesting because it was a complete new thing i was meant to deal with.

I think the scariest part of it though was when i wrote my first article. I underestimated myself and really felt bad because i knew that my writing was far from being at their level but when i handed my work, they were satisfied with it and i was proud, i felt a bit more important and really felt that i was in the real world. Finally, when i was asked to write my first speech, i had a lot more confidence in myself and was more at ease.

I think that you should all have realized that, but the whole idea that i had of the work, from our lectures, was really eluded when i got to start work. Its like i was left into the wild and i had to survive... but i realize the importance of our learning at Uni during those two years and half, because i could relate every situation to something we did in class, although it was just a base, i could follow every step i made. And i had to survive, but it's not like i was left alone.
