Getting the Job!!

After several weeks of interning, I was just about to leave the office for the day and the Managing Director called me into her office. I was incredibly nervous and had a million thoughts running through my head, the main one being if I’d done something wrong.

Instead I was welcomed with a pleasant surprise. I was asked if I wanted to join the team permanently at the conclusion of my internship. The feedback that I had received was that the team had really enjoyed working with me and that I have a unique thinking pattern.

Not only was this an incredible offer, but the even better thing was that I still had several days of my internship left to learn everything that my job would entail. This also meant that the second half of my internship held a lot more responsibility than the first. As the other consultants knew I would be staying on, they were able to give me long term tasks to complete.

When I first started this internship, I never had imagined that I would want to work in a consultancy. I thought that it would be better to work in-house at an organisation so that you knew their background, vision and voice through and through. Whilst interning I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to work on multiple clients. It means that each day is generally different and I tend to walk away having learnt so much more about our Society and the organisations that exist within it as well as Public Relations and the industry.

After hearing alumni speak on several occasions at Curtin, about how hard it can be to get a job after graduating, I am incredibly grateful that I have been given this opportunity, as I know someone learning in the workplace can sometimes be a nuisance.
