Imagine: From Classroom to Real Life
Situation
Hi all.
I am Kelly, from Charles Telfair Institute in Mauritius studying a BCOM in Tourism and Event
Management and Public Relations. I am
doing my internship at Imagine Communication, a PR and Communication Agency.
Imagine Communication
Imagine Communication, founded in 1991 as the first Media and
Public Relations Communication Consultancy Services in the South Indian Ocean
Islands Region, offers PR Services,
Corporate Communication, Crisis and Issue Management, Media Relations and
Support, Event Coordination and Management and Public affairs.
First Week at Imagine
During my first week at Imagine Communication, I was exposed
to PR basics such as Press Summaries, Radio Transcript, Database Updates and
Media Monitoring. During my first week at Imagine, I have also been able to
acquire PR knowledge and understanding of the PR field and how to work towards
understanding different client's goals, expectations and aspirations.
Press Summaries and Radio Transcript
My first responsibility as a PR intern was to familiarise
myself with Press Summaries writing for Imagine’s different clients mainly Air
Mauritius, Omnicane and Airbus. It consists of scanning different local
newspapers and online media and writing summaries regarding those clients, their
industries and environments and sending these summaries to the latter. Additionally, I was also asked to listen to radio stations on important issues of on one of their clients which were broadcast and to do a transcript of
this announcement and sending a copy to the client.
I think it is very interesting for us, PR students that are
soon getting in the PR field, to start with these basic tasks as it helps us
understand more the client's industries, environments and competitors.

Media monitoring
Media monitoring is the process of monitoring the output of
the print media concerning particular published adverts. At Imagine, my task
for Media Monitoring was mainly to look for advertisements in print media that make reference to a specific client, its activities and its designated
topics of interests.
My objectives
I am excited to be spending these 2 months at Imagine, not
only because I am having fun while learning and enhancing my knowledge, but I feel
lucky receiving PR experience from this company. My objectives as a PR intern at
Imagine Communication is to learn as much as possible about PR to become more
familiar with this industry.
