Finally I'm Bloggin' !

Hello, selamat, ciao, hola, namaskaar, G'DAY!!!

My name is Nicole Carbone and finally I can contribute to this wonderful blog! There was a point where I didn't think I would not be able to wow you with my insightful and highly entertaining thoughts (insert sarcasm here), but low and behold here I am.

After months of emails and phone calls to businesses all across Perth, which lead to pretty much nothing, I have finally started my PR 393 placement at a little boutique consultancy in Subiaco called CSPR (Christine Silbert Public Relations). I will be working with a not for profit client called Therapy Focus . Therapy Focus in an organisation that helps children with disabilities between the age of 0-18 to gain the most independent way of life possible. My role will be to help them plan the inaugural "Symphony of Sunflowers" event. The aim of the event will be to encourage the people of WA to grow gardens of sunflowers in order to build awareness about children with disabilites and to raise money for the organisations charity the "Help a Child Grow Fund."

I'm really looking forward to working with Therapy Focus. This event has the potential to be very successful and there are many groups of the community that we can target to get involved. The build up to the event will kick off on April 17 at Garden Week and I have already started working on small tasks for this offical 'launch'. Over the first two days of my prac, I have been working on a media list. It was good to put something I had learnt at uni into practice - lucky i paid attention in PR 250! I also compiled a task list of things that need to be organised and people we need to contact before the day.

After my first two days, I'm excited for whats to come. I'm just really happy to have got my placement under way cause the thought of having to hang back for another semester and add another two grand to my hecs debt because i couldnt find somewhere to complete 393, scared me silly. Christine, my supervisor has alot of experience in the industry so I have no doubt that I will learn alot from her along the way!

Im looking forward to not only sharing my experiences with you, but also seeing what you are all up to!

Tootles!

Congratulations Nic! I am too working for a PR firm that is involved in two non-for-profit events. I am assisting in the CelebriArt event as well as a fundraiser raising money to rebuild a burnt down sculpture garden in Victoria. We will definetly have issues and learning curves that will be more or less the same! Look forward to hearing about it
