Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. Please also see http://http://printernship-reflections2.blogspot.com.au/ for more reflections.

Three Quarters There!
I am currently three quarters through my internship and have been enjoying it. The skills taught at university are all called upon in the real world, who would have thought it? To date, I have had to create media releases, write copy for websites, interview sources, construct invite lists, help with mail outs, assist with events and monitor the media. My only regret is not having had the opportunity to help with an event from start to finish. While I always endeavour to be productive, it can also be difficult to secure a steady stream of work. I always ask for more from just about anyone, but it does come in piece-by-piece. Yesterday at lunch I was once again reminded of workplace politics. A couple of staff were expressing opinions about another staff member who was not present at the lunch table, and I was asked to keep what I heard to myself (which of course I did). Neutrality can be difficult, but I am attempting to do as the Swiss do!
