Hope all placements are going well :)
Having been at my workplace for awhile now I have had to put into practice some things I have learnt at univeristy. One of those being time management and being able to prioritise what work is more important than other.
In this particular workplace there is usually a deadline for everything. Every week we (I) must update the website/facebook/myspace which is extremely important. The public like to know what is happening and what bands are coming up as well as the promoters etc wanting their bands announced at a certain time.
People can get very unhappy if they are meant to be promoted by the venue and it isnt happening. I had a local band actually email me and ask me to add their gig to the website as it wasnt there. This is crucial for a new band as they want to sell as many tickets as possible and reach as many people as possible so that they have a shot at having a successful gig. You dont actually realise how important some of this stuff can be.
Also we must update weekly all our gigs with Drum Media/Xpress/The Wire etc. As our ads are mostly paid for this stuff has to be in on TIME. If it isnt these media outlets give you an email to remind you but other than that its basically bad luck. This can be bad in the sense our customers (clubgoers) dont know whats coming up and that we are paying for an add that may not be updated.
Every day there are tasks that need to be done and they need to be done correctly. Managing your time efficiently is IMPORTANT. I couldnt stress this enough to people when in their placement and in the workforce.
