Hey everyone,
Today was a great and long day for me. We finished the organisation of the multicultural week. It is all nearly done. All is organised for our parts (the public relation officer and me), as the event tasks was divided between each of the employees of the organisation. I do not think that it was a great idea, since, we as public relation are formed to do this kind of work, therefore an accountant or a HR mare not supposed to plan event, but at least we had some help. Anyway, the public relation officer and I finished the preparation of this event. At the beginning, it was a bit hard as I was new to this in the organisation, then; it was really fun to make in practice my uni knowledge. And finally at the end, it was really stressful because all the fun part was done but the boring and hard stuff remain. We needed to check if everyone has answer our email and mail, if they remember that there will be an event in September, if the sponsor were still on to finance the event and so on. It seemed that there was always something which remains. But now it is finish, we just need to wait until the week of the multicultural event, and then we will work with the help of various volunteers to demonstrate the wonderful cultural differences in our world. I am much excited about the venue of this event. I want to see if our work was good enough, where we should work more and less; and if something goes wrong, what should we do. I am also a bit stress, because the public relation officer and I will not be there for one day, so we chose a volunteer to supervise the different activities but if somehow something happen, we will not be there to discuss and to react. Who will do that? The volunteer? Is he well formed to deal with this kind of stuff? I realised the importance of the planning of an event, we invest a lot of our time and our person in this project. And if we fail, we will be very disappointed. I now understand the stress that people undergo when they organise big events, for instance for famous people or very important people... I don’t know how they deal with the stress. For me, for the moment, stress is excellent, because it boosts me, and it increases my capabilities for doing good job. But we will see how I will deal with a lot of stress...you will discover that in the next episode of celine and the international student council...hiih
See you guys...

Hi Celine,
Thank you for your incite into event management. I am also in the process of organising an opening for the not-for-profit organisation I am completing my placement at. Some of things you mentioned are of concern to me also, such as leaving the work for someone else. The organisation does not have a PR department, just me. The office administrator has some PR background as do some of the sponsors I will be incontact with, but it looks as the opening may not happen untill after my placement is finished and will then be left in the hands of someone else. This is a very interesting position to be left in and I am glad there is someone else with a simular concern.
Will be great to here how everything works out.
Ria
