Second post for Tourism WA

Hi everyone

I am now about halfway through my PR placement at Tourism WA.
I'm not heavily involved in any of the large projects that are happening within the media department. I usually carry out the small jobs that need doing, such as writing up articles, organising media clippings, answering email queries from journalists etc. However I'm finding that it's still helping me to learn a lot. I have a much better idea about the way a PR department operates and what kind of work is involved from observing.

Completing the PR techniques unit all that time ago has definitely helped now! I've noticed that I do a lot of writing at a computer and so do the others in the department. Good writing skills are definitely needed.

So far I have started to enjoy my placement. I’m especially enjoying the destination PR side of things where they promote WA to the rest of Australia and the world. It’s definitely interesting.

Thank you for reading my blog! I will post again soon

Kelsey

It sounds like a really interesting internship!
I'm really interested in the destination side of PR as well as I am also studying Tourism Management so I'm slightly jealous of your placement :p

I have also noticed the need for excellent writing skills, it makes such a difference to the way your work is received and the perspectives fellow employees and clients have on you.

My prac sounds to be similar to yours, as small tasks also are passed onto myself. I think this can be good and bad because it still gives you an inside to the workings of the PR's role as well as further developing the fine skills needed for the big projects- well that’s what I have found anyway :)

I hope you continue to enjoy your prac- I'm about half way though mine too and don't want it to end!

Hi Kesley,

What a nice intern placement, it must be exciting working at a Tourism board.

Same here, we may not be assigned or given major tasks since we are just an intern for 20 days. However, as saying goes, small tasks are crucial too and they may affect the outcomes of the things we do.

As what you have stated, at least we get to see how a PR department operates.

cheers,
Jeffrey

Tourism W.A would be a fantastic place to work. It shouldn't be hard to promote such a beatiful place.

I was just wondering if you know the position of Tourism W.A in the recent, an ongoing fight to extend shopping hours?

My local shopping centre, Midland Gate, had a paper going around to see whether retailers would support making Midland a tourist destination, allowing it to extend their trading hours.

From what I observe, people of Perth are all for making our city more attractive to tourists, though don't want to actually make the changes on bringing people here.

What are your thoughts on this?
