Final Blog Entry

Well my internship is done and the report is almost done. This semester has gone by so very fast. I learnt a lot from my experience working at the Alzheimer’s Australia. My boss is one of the nicest person I’ve ever met and was very helpful as well.
I honestly never really enjoyed learning public relations and I thought that the internship was going to be long and really boring, but I was so wrong. I found it even more interesting and it thought me a lot.
Preparing for an event is a lot of work and not just about preparing a strategy, but getting information out to the media is also a lot of work and sometimes it can take up a couple of hours just calling and letting them know we are about to send them a media release or a community service announcement.
I didn’t get to do much event management as I started working for the company pretty late and it was already in the middle of the preparation so I didn’t get my own project to work on. It was still fun. I did how ever get two video projects where I went and recoded the forums and then edited it for my boss so that he could use it.
The two years of studying public relations paid off when I was working at the company. I got to put them in play.
I didn’t just learn more about events management and public relations, but I also did learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and what it can do to people who are diagnosed with it and those who are taking care of them. It is sad to know that not many people are aware of the disease until it hits someone in their family.
I will definitely bring what I have learnt while working at the Alzheimer’s Australia WA with me when I start working. Even though it was just for a short time, the experience is still big.
