First Blog Entry

Hey everyone,

This is my first time writing a blog entry and am really excited. I have been working at the Alzheimer’s Australia WA for the past couple of weeks and it has been really interesting. I have learnt a lot of things during my time here.

Before I started working here I didn’t know much about Alzheimer’s as I do now. I just knew it was a disease and that it affected older people. Now I know a lot more because I was sent for talks and read up a little more about it.

I also learnt more about public relations as well. I always thought that public relations was all about writing media releases and preparing media strategies, but there is so much more to that.
The second week I was at the association, I was contacting radio stations all around Western Australia to send out a community service announcement about the Memory Walk that was held on the 20th of September. The response was good because I managed to get an interview set up with the ABC radio station. I am not sure if it happened because my boss took over that the following day but I do know he was pretty happy with the responds.
I was sent for film a talk by a doctor from Johns Hopkin University in Pittsburg who came and gave a talk on what is Alzheimer’s Disease. I currently edited the video for my boss and I think it is going to be distributed in the office.

This work experience really is teaching me a lot about the real working world and I am not treated like a student, well most of the time. There are responsibilities and we cant just neglect them even though we know that as students.

I will write more this week. Sorry for the late blog entry.
