Skills I acquired during placement
Hi friends! This semester is almost over.PR 393 is a very interesting module according to me as it helped us to apply our theories in the real world and also helped us get an insight of the working world and make us know where we stand and what we can really do.It was a great experience for me and I acquired some skills that I deem as very important for my future career. The first skill that i gained was good communication skills as I often had the chance to deal with difficult and angry customers.I learnt that it was very important to separate an angry customer from a public place as then the company gets a bad reputation when the customer complains and others listen and do word of mouth.Secondly,a calm and confident attitude must be adopted so as to calm the customer and let him see that we are here to protect his interests and whatever his problem we can sit down and find a solution for it.I also learned how to talk confidently in front of a management board and how the tone of voice and the posture we have can give an impression of confidence or not.I mainly did customer relations and a bit of government relations as well as some commercials for the new hotel we are opening, which I think is stakeholders relations.I also did some typical PR jobs like the fact sheet and a media release. What surprised me most was the fact that many of my colleagues thought that I was over qualified to work in the hotel industry as PR is not very popular there,it is mainly marketing which does the PR and communication work. And the only post for PR persons in the hotel industry would be the PR manager and the Pr coordinator.PR is mainly done by the head office while in the hotels themselves there is only guest relations. The difference between the two is that guest relations does not require all the skills and theories we acquired at university,it is mainly about caring for customers whereas PR is much broader,we care for all stakeholders and have more responsibility as usually the good management of the reputation of the company rests on us.Thank you for reading and leaving your comments.see you.
