My internship in AIBD

Hey beautiful people. Its been a month and some weeks i have been doin my internship in Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development. I started on the 23rd November 2009. Its been a very interesting experience for me to be able to indulge in the work world.

For my first task, i was assigned to go and look at the organization's newsletter "Broadcaster" and identify faults as well as coming up with recommendations that could help improve it. I had to take different Broadcasters published at different times to evaluate the contents as well as style of their newsletter. Then i indulged in doing research so to be able to make best recommendations for the newsletter. Later i showed my recommendations to my supervisor who really liked them and said she will forward them to the Director of the organization. Now I'm left with meeting the editor of the newsletter to discuss my recommendation and he will be around on the 16 January 2010.

The other task that i have been doing is evaluation. Since the organization deals with training broadcasters and media professionals, from time to time my supervisor needs to attend to some conferences or events. At these events or conferences there will be surveys or questionnaires for the participants to fill in, which my supervisor will come with them and assign me to compile the data. It is even more interesting as i am improving my spreadsheet skills to evaluate all the information.

The most important lesson i have learned in the work world regarding public relations is that one needs to do a lot of research so they have an indepth information on a case they are dealing with for accurate information. I have another task of finding how many institutions in the Asia-Pacific Region offer Journalism and other journalism related coarses. With this information they want to determine areas where there is a shortage so as to come up with a way of ensuring that the coarse be provided to those areas in abundance.

AIBD does not have a Public Relation department. most of the work is done by the Programme Managers. i am supervised by one of the Programme Managers.
