It all ended too soon..

With a blink of the eye, it had been 5 weeks since I first took a step into the real Public Relations world, away from all the text based practice and writing I had in Curtin, it now marks the end of my 20 working days attachment with Central Provident Fund Board’s Corporate Communication Department.

I still remember how lost I was on the first day as I stepped into the department and my boss simply walked over to me and said, “Steve, help me with an event plan for the board’s 55th Anniversary lunch.” and simply left me alone in my cubicle all lost.

Within these 20 workings days, I had not only place into practice the writing skills I gained from the 5 previous modules in Public Relations, I had also gained much experience with simple task such as media tracking, project pitching, client meetings and running small activities such as photo taking for some of the board’s staff.

I would never have thought that a simple attachment with the Corporate Communications department would have given me the opportunity to experience so many things. I had always thought I would simply be treat as an intern and used to perform no-brainer task so that I wouldn’t tarnish all their previous hard work.

At the end, I am really thankful that the Board’s Corporate Communications department took me in and really gave me the learning opportunity, but also that Curtin arranged for such a program so that students such as I, can really have a real Public Relations experience in the field.

I had actually volunteered to continue helping out on some small projects that I started off but never had the chance to see finish due to the attachment period. Look forward to update some of the details on the blog again!!

Hi Steve, I know how you feel! I felt so lost in the first week of my placement but two months on it's amazing how much I've learnt and the new skills and experiences I have gained. Well done on completing your placement!
