Out of a possible 50 media guests, only 30 responded. only 16 attended, 9 were called on the day and had said to be on their way but never showed up and 5 declined on the day of the event. Main reason for not attending was that apparently the Prime Minister had on that very same day ordered journalists and editors in Malaysia to attend his '1 Malaysia Conclave, while others were unavailable due to other/office related Chinese New Year Events. The event had served a few of its purposes and our client, 'Deliver' had its own share of the cake as well. Three top local newspapers and 1 major T.V network had requested interviews, all of which would be a major boost in keeping up with the company's stakeholders.
Not only was given a chance to meet the most famous and talented journalists in Malaysia but was also given a chance to experience the thrill and atmosphere of handling events of such magnitude. And i must i learnt a whole lot from the event in relation to Public Relations. Although the purpose of the event was to share a sense of appreciation, it was also a way of getting the brand 'Deliver' out of the closet and into the global market, so i would rule out any success stories about the event and rather suggest a few things that would have worked for both parties in this situation.
- There should have been a definite plan of movement of key people. It is important for all the Deliver staff present to interact with as many of the guests as possible and take turns moving around the tables to make all the media feel included and leverage the Deliver brand personally.
All in all, it was a great media event and the media are not as hash as i thought they were, very nice people in fact.
