"Evaluation" day!

Hi everyone!

Today I had a really interesting day at Shelter! It was more an evaluation day, my boss wanted to meet with me and have a look at my work and what I've achieved so far. We first worked on one of the media release I wrote. She corrected a few things and added a quote. Then, after days of collecting information, we finally decided to create the Facebook account. I designed some pictures for the profile picture as my boss wanted the Facebook profile to be more "attractive" than the website. However, after some thinking, my boss decided to use their original logo, as they paid for it to be created. Fair enough..but I was still a bit disappointed as I do think their original logo is quite plain and boring and I also think that a profile picture should be quite attractive too.. anyway, apart from this little detail, everything I did was used in their new Facebook account. We also had to look for people and organisations to invite on Facebook. We frst went through the members list and added them on Facebook. More than 3/4 of them has a Facebook account, which worked out really well!
The hardest part after adding these actual members was to find the right organisations and individuals to invite on Facebook as the aim of this Facebook account is not to obtain the biggest amount of "friends" but people who will actually be interested and ready to participate to our Facebook. Finally, we decided on what to share or not to the public through the facebook account and their website. It was really interesting to see that only a smlall part of their information (reserved for members) was kept from the public. Most of their information, I would say 90% are shown to the public. I always had the impression that organisations, especially non-profits one, were more confidential in a certain way...

Other interesting point: our newsletter! It didn't have the success expecte, due to an "inappropriate" comment made about some people's decisions in the government concerning housing issues. We had to retract the newsletter and write an apology.Even though every single newspapers in Perth has the same opinion on this particular issue, and wrote/commented without being in any kind of trouble, Shelter WA did! I thought it was unfair at first, but after more thinking, as being a not-for-profit organisation, we have to be careful of what we say and preserve a good reputation as we depend on government funds!

So here we go again, working on another newsletter! I'll let you know what happen next..really soon!

Goodluck to everyone!
