Brochure Release

We were all busy buzzing around the office today because it was the final day to finish the 2010/2011 WA brochure. It’s over 100 pages, full of destination descriptions, accommodation, tour itineraries and plenty of photos. We saw the final copy of it on the computer and the design department did a great job, there are lots of beautiful holiday photos and it’s all going to be put on glossy coloured paper.

It’s exiting that some of the tour descriptions that I wrote have been put in. Only a few paragraphs here and there, but it’s nice to know that I have contributed to a little piece of it. After much back and forth communication with a Ningaloo Reef tour company, I put together a great write up and itinerary for each of their 5 tours in the brochure. A few of my Broome accommodation write ups made it into the final copy as well.

They went off to be printed today and we should have them back soon, I can’t wait to see the final product. I’m told that it will get even busier when we get the brochures back. We have to send them out to the travel companies and tourism information centres, both locally and internationally. We also have a list of customer brochure requests, so we have to package them and mail them out to hundreds of potential customers. So people on the other side of the world will be reading my work when booking their Western Australian holiday, thats pretty cool!

Congratulations on having your contribution printed. That's so exciting. Will you still be there to see the project through? Did you find the work you did whilst at your placement different was eased by the practical work learnt during the course?

Hello!

Congratulations on your contributions to the 2010/2011 brochure!I assume you conducted your placement at Tourism WA? It will be exciting to have the final copy in your hand soon :)

I conducted my placement at a consultancy called the SponsorShop and I also had the pleasure of contributing to one of our client's new webpage. Our consultancy was responsible for re-writing their web content and contributing to the overall design.

The client, 'Albany Gardens' is a Caravan and Camping Resort located in the South West region, just walking distance from the beach.

I was allocated the task of rewording their web content to make it more appealing and to emphasize their key messages.

The website went live about a month ago and it was so nice to see what I'd written, immortalised in the World Wide Web!

Anyway I hope you've enjoyed your placement!

Well done and congratulations! It was very satisfying to see our work being recognized and even better published. I did my placement just at Curtin campus – Curtin Alumni Relations Office. What we did was keeping Curtin's alumni network healthy, by fostering life-long partnerships with graduates and friends of Curtin. The Office was much like a not-for-profit organization.

We used to produce brochures as well; however, with an upgraded and content-rich website, our target audience was able to access any info they wanted. We produced monthly e-Newsletter to replace the printed one.

One of my main tasks was to write for the e-Newsletter. Since the newsletter was electronic version, most of the articles had a work limit of 150-200. It was hard sometimes because we must get our message out precisely without missing any information. To this day, it was my 2nd month of placement hence I was lucky to contribute to 2 editions of the e-Newsletter.

I usually was given a brief background of what I was expected to write. I started with in-depth research to find out more about the story, made calls if needed, then locked an angle and started writing without worry about the word limit. After it’s finished, it always was good to proof-read it first before sending to other staff to approve. The more I practiced the more confident I became and the less they made amendment. All of my work got to be published in the e-Newsletter and read by our alumni. It was a rewarding experience.

Well done! Although it's slightly different to journalism in that your name isn't attributed to your words, I still find it incredibly exciting when words I've written for a media release are published in the media, or as Laura says "immortalised in the world wide web"!
