The Final Post.

The Final Post.

So here is my last post. I have just started to write my report. I must say that the internship part of the module is much more interesting.

I have really enjoyed this module. I have been put what I have been taught in class in practise. I have been writing a media release. I have made press clippings. I have designed a PR plan. I have helped in organising an event. It is often said that the real world of work is not as easy as what we have learnt in books. But I personally found it very stimulating. During my internship I have been asked to do other tasks that were not in the PR field. I also got criticism for one of the tasks that I had done but this did encourage me even more to go further and do my best.

I have seen the importance of PR in a monopolistic company who at the same time is a parastatal body. At the CWA, the PR is present but not recognised as such. It is the case in many companies in Mauritius.

I would also like to share good news with you. Last week my supervisor from the CWA called and asked me to come back for another internship. They seem to have liked my work. I will do my best to make PR be recognised at its best in the company.

So here we are, only a few days before the submission of the report. I wish you people a very good luck.

Cheers!

Ashvani

Congratulations on extending your internship, fingers crossed it might turn into a permanent job!

I understand what you mean about PR not always looked upon favourably, especially in a profit-focused company. In the travel company that I am working in, they usually put PR behind marketing and advertising. It can be very difficult trying to convince management to see the benefits of good PR in a company.

Wishing you the best of luck, and hope your career in PR turns out to be a success!

Hey Ashvani,

Looks like you had a good time at your internship! Congratulations on your second internship offer!

I also realised how important PR is within a company and how much it can raise the awareness. However, some organisations (especially small ones) don't recognise the importance of having a PR person..until they actually have one working for them! I was doing my internship at Shelter WA, a small not-for-profit organisation, and they don't have a PR person. However, 2 of the staff members do some PR work (such as writting media release, finding potential audiences, managing events etc). After my internship there, they realised how much having a PR person working for them had been beneficial to their organisation.

Hope your going well with your report! Best of luck!

Congratulations Ash
Great to hear about the extension of your internship:)

Just want to share my view with you...

Actually its only now that parastatal organisation have started to realise the importance of PR. Even at the CEB its the same, there is a lot of PR activities that are carried forward, yet they are unseen.

I actually recommend such organisations to implement on specific company, who will handle all PR related tasks and activities.

It's only then, that the company will function in a more systematic and strategic way, making the business flourish economically, politically, socially and technologically.

And of course the department should coordinate with each other to obtain these outcomes at the end...

Thats all I've got ash ;)

Good luck for your report

Take care
Cheers
