On Thursday I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to represent my organisation on a whole new level. The week prior my boss received a phone call from the Department of Finance and Treasury about a tender for business. I was responsible for finding all of the information about this tender as well as explaining the tender and what it would require to my boss.
Another part of this experience was attending (on behalf of one of the consultants at my organisation) the brief for this tender. Obviously I was a bit nervous when I entered the building and went into the conference room; about 16 other people were at the tender representing their organisations. It was great to get the chance to represent my placement organisation and to get a chance to see how the tender process works.
The brief included background information about the tender, what exactly the business opportunity would include and the process for submitting your organisations interest in the business tender.
During the brief I noticed that just because we leave University it doesn’t mean that we are going to get rid of those annoying people who ask stupid questions and make unnecessary remarks during presentations. I also noticed that if you act like you are an educated and experienced person, people treat you accordingly!
My PR placement has now come to an end and I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to do the placement in such a wonderful organisation that had so much to teach me about both public relations and the workplace. I am continuing with work experience at my organisation to try to absorb as much as I can about our profession and how it works!
