Global Village

Hie Guys! How have you bin?
Like I had mentioned before Habitat for Humanity has a department called Global Village which deals with some international volunteers that come over and help build for the less fortunate. For them to come over they must donate some money first and they are the ones to take care of their accommodation here.
I was given an opportunity to go and see what happens at the building site. So I realized that internal communication and external communication are very different. The way you talk to other staff members is totally different from the way you talk to donors. I visited the site once in a day and I could realize that it was so hard to work with people with a different background and culture.
Oh the team was from Netherlands and they came as a family. (Mother, father, 4 sons and their girlfriends) There was a communication problem since most of the time they where speaking Dutch language leaving locals out of the conversation. It was also hard to communicate since the guys needed permission from their partners to open up.
The team made me realize that communication can be a very challenging thing more specially when people don’t want to open up. In general I can say working with different people from different backgrounds is a huge challenge. And it’s really true that communication is a two way thing. But I had fun learning different things, meeting new people applying what I have learned in PR.I learned a lot from the Global village coordinator as she made everything I saw as a challenge become easy.
I just hope the coming team will bring a different experience all together.
Hope you guys are still doing well.
Much love

hello Botho!!

Is a very good experience!
working with different people from different backgrounds is a huge challenge because you have to learn how they do things but i am happy for me because i had a chance to think on the psychologist table and made easy for them to work well with me. Now i can speak a bit of their Language, Botho you know that i like to explore things.

enjoy your stay at Habitat!
